@ topic, The PS3 has no hardware problem. Most of the trouble Sony was and still is in (Who thought the PS3 would be behinde the Xbox 360 after three years on the market? Everybody expected Sony to kill the competition again) are software related. They lost the great franchises as exclusives, games looked much worse on PS3 at first and it took way too long to get the first great exlusive game on the PS3.

They need to work on the software and they are doing so. A new hardware would be the biggest mistake Sony could do.

Simple economics, Sony isn't going to announce a successor for several reasons but the foremost is that the PS3 sales haven't peaked yet.....

Especially, when Sony stated, that they will support PS3(produce new units) for 10 years or till 2016.

Not to mention, that Sony is going to release those motion wands next Spring.
