It says Wii has stalled not Wii has failed -_-

Back to defensive positions again. They still not admitting the Wii fauled on them.

They never said the Wii failed on them, if you read, you would see that they are not saying that the Wii failed, but that they failed to support it properly, and failed to keep its momentum going with software

actually theres 2 mistranslation on what Iwata says: We failed the Wii and Wii has failed now its Wii has stalled. The correct translation. Seem gaming journalists are at it again.  If not, theres no reason for the topuc title

end of core gaming days prediction:

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

E3 2010- Tape runs out

holy fucking hell, did ya'll just read the topic title before you posted?!?!

“We failed with the Wii. We were unable to continually release strong software, and let the nice mood cool. We were unable to show a new game to become ‘the next thing.’ In the game market, once you’ve lost the momentum, it takes time to recover. With the price drop, sales returned to a certain level, but they just did not reach the level of last year around this time. We decided that it would be difficult to sell enough to recover from the poor performance of the first half of the year. In order to reach it (20 million target), we’ll have to move quite a large quantity, but it’s a figure we released after having felt the momentum returning [based off the price drop].”

all you have to do is read the first line to know what he's talking about. he's not saying its a failure saleswise, hell, he's not saying the wii is a failure at all. all he's saying is that THEY (nintendo) failed to continually release strong software, which led to the 2 year game drought and the subsequenst loss of momentum.

NOT ONCE does it call the wii's sales (LTD) a failure, so trying to compare it to the 360 and PS3 is irrelevant, and stupid.

EDIT: this was in response to the ignorance in the the first page.

^Sorry Yushire, the Wii is far from over, what Nintendo is doing is admitting to their mistakes of the past year, and acknowledging that they need to rectify them. What they need to do is release software that regains and keeps the momentum, as for the price cut, well it helped, not as much as they would have liked, but to really get back on form, they need to have the software.

Regaining momentum is much harder than that.

It's really hard to become a hot electronic product and very few companies have been able to regain momentun with the same product that lost it.

That doesn't mean Wii sales will tank to GC level, but you shoudn't expect Wii sales to come anywhere near last year number this gen...

You're analyzing Wii sales as if the majority of those sales were made in the gaming community while they were actually made to the mass public at large.

The purchasing pattern of the general customer out there is a lot different from the one of a traditional gamer who follows closely the software releases.

The Wii got where it was because it became the hot item to have for parties or to play with friends...

That is the momentum it needs to get back and I don't think it will happen with the same hardware, no matter the software..

That's incorrect, its not the hardare that's the issue, you're right they need to keep the expanded audience enthused, but that's always been the software side, people bought Wii initially because of Wii Sports, but aside from Sports resort, no game has taken that promise further, and nothing has gone beyond Wii sports resort yet. Same with the balance board, Wii fit and Wii fit plus are great, but where is the game that goes beyond them Nintendo needs to make sure it goes further with Wii motion plus and Balance board, beyond just sports and fit. The same thing will be needed with the Vitality sensor

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Well at least they know what happens with a bad lineup like the infamous "2008 Wii Music-Animal Crossing" combo

Oh man I love Nintendo. They failed to reach their ridiculously lofty goals, and accidentally ONLY made the most successful revolution of video game history in the areas of controls, marketing, market expansion, making the industry more mainstream and accepted by families, girls, older gamers, lapsed gamers, convalescent homes, rehabilitation clinics, cruise ships, and even played live at the Oscars, and they also had the greatest comeback of all time in this industry, and did it with cheap outdated tech to boot! But that's not good enough for Nintendo. They want MOAR!!!

Seem you two missed the party. Iwata never mentioned FAILED in his quote. Good thing GAFers clarify this. Now the thread that first started this was LULZY:

^Whether its failed or stalled, the point is still the same, Nintendo didn't deliver the software they needed and Wii lost momentum

Haha, so in the end the corrections were just that Wii slowed down in sales? Like everyone said that actually read the OP :P wow brilliant.
