Factor 5 did not abandon nintendo.

Factor 5 asked for a game to work on. at this point nintendo were still working out what to do with their next console so they didnt have anything. With bills and wages to pay Factor 5 made a game for sony because they needed to

^Actually what happened, is they wanted Nintendo to move in the direction of Sony and MS, more power, and thought Nintendo would do the same, but Nintendo was focusing on designing the Wii, and going for a less powerful system, so Factor 5 moved towards the more graphics powerful side, expecting Nintendo to do the same, only to find that Nintendo went for less power

If its true that PilotWings and RogueSquadron are both completed then I am pretty upset at LucasArts and Nintendo for not getting these games to store shelves. One of my favorite GameCube games was RogueSquadron:RogueLeader and based on Factor5's history of AAA+ games I'm pretty sure both titles are up to snuff quality wise. Nintendo and LucasArts are probubly just avoiding a gamble but Nintendo could use every AAA+ game they can get and same goes for LucasArts!

Yeah, this is kinda my feeling too. If the games are as close to completion as the article suggests and particularly in light of Iwata's recent admission that Nintendo hasn't released enough software continuously, you'd think it wouldn't be too hard for them to step in and ensure that both products see the light of day.

I remember reading interviews with Factor5 in which they said they were dissapointed with Nintendo for not producing a more powerful system. They had already begun work on their next graphics engine and yes I would call it abandonment. Factor5 went ahead and wanted to make something beautiful and to create something state of the art, so they developed Lair. Of course this pretty much bankrupted them. The idea that Factor5 had staff to pay and stuff and that is why they made Lair instead of making something on Wii is ludacris. We all know that in order to profit on the PS3 you have to sell very well.

Factor5 made a choice, the wrong choice but a choice none the less. I can understand after the epic fail that was L.A.I.R that maybe Nintendo and LucasArts are/were reluctant to give them another chance!

No PilotWings!? :(
That said, "could have been released in 2009" sounds more like "if we hadn't laid everybody off in July" than "It's already 100% finished" to me. If the game is actually done and actually good I don't know why Nintendo isn't publishing it. Then again, look at Fatal Frame, Mother 3 and Disaster...

Yes, we know that, and we did even at the time. Factor 5's own chart shows that. But if they assumed that the next Nintendo system would be similar in scope to the HD systems, then it's irrelevant that the HD consoles demanded such vast resources, as Nintendo's system would be little better.

They abandoned Nintendo, such is the fate of all companies that do, I mean when was the last time people were really interested in a Silicon Knights or Rare game?

I never really noticed that but yeah. Sure seems like companies that leave Nintendo don't seem to fair so well. Did you also notice that all three companies pretty much jumped ship for the similar concepts. More power.

It implies that Nintendo had a heavy hand in their success.  Not surprising.  Look at how much impact Miyamoto had on Retro's concept of Metroid Prime.

This is why I'm excited to see what they can make Team Ninja do with Other M.

exactly, and none of the three have been able to recoup the success they had with Nintendo

Moral of the story:  Never leave Nintendo.  Otherwise, Miyamoto sends ninjas to make your game suck.
