How big of a system seller is Metroid though?  I never saw it being on the Mario level for Nintendo, and moving too many consoles.  I believe that Kid Icarus in Japan was bigger there than Metroid.

My focus was on a title causing a system to be sold, rather than how well it sells on a given system.  Gran Turismo was on the top console, and was top in the niche on that console.  How many people bought a Playstation to play just that though?  Or, did they have the console and decided to buy the game as a result?  If the title is that big of a system seller, what kind of sales spike are we looking at with the PSP, for example?  I would say if Gran Turismo hit within the first year of the PS3 coming out, then maybe there would be something.

Yea and MGS3 was a niche game on the top console. But it sold more on PS3. Nice argument you have there. Pity it fails.

What argument?  I was asking how the PS3 will increase in sales due to GT5 being released.  That is what I was asking about.  I had speculated that I don't see it being as big in moving consoles if it were released early in the life cycle of PS3.  Again, the issue has to do with moving consoles, rather than raw sales, and asking what impact it has.  It is a question asking thread, rather than one trying to reach a conclusion and persuade (aka, an argument).

PSP- GTA: Liberty City Stories boosted PSP hardware by 20k on release.

PS3- The multiplat GTA4 boosted PS3 hardware by over 100k on release.

Do you now see why it is daft to compare PSP + PS3 sw/hw sales?

You saying it is daft because Gran Turismo isn't an effective game for increasing sales of PSP systems?  A game platform is a game platform.

Probably the new Grantourismo will be a bigger system seller then the others. That is if Metal Gear 4 is any indication.



 Go Team Venture! I still don't get the Wii, PS Move,  and Kinect.

Lets see some number fellas.. Increase on sales week1 and through week4?

Week 1: 600K

Week 2: 400K

Week 3: 350K

Week 4: 300K

So In my opinion iw will be a huge system seller

Well the question was how much the GTPSP moved the PSP console (nothing spectacular). Yet we don't even know the real sale numbers since a good deal if it's copyies are distributed over PSN. I was trying to point out, that every single person who can pirate games probably already pirated it. So the number of ppl playing GTPSP can be really impresive. Now add the fact that GT5 is the real deal, can't be pirated and ppl are waiting for it for 5 years. Might be hard to follow (I'm really tired now), but I'm trying to say that GT5 will be huge.

Im showing you how daft it is to compare the sw/hw sales/boosts between PSP and PS3.

But if you want a 2nd example but with exclusives, i can show you MGS PSP and MGS4 hw/sw boosts?

The point of the previous post was to show you that the boosts are completely different. On PSP the exclusive boosted hardware by only 20k, on PS3 the multiplat boosted it by 100k. Thats a 5x increase.
