YES it helped

and if it is only temporary : HOW DO YOU WANT US TO KNOW !

Because if its only a month of surge of sales that wont help abit either on both companies. Both companies wants long term goal on their pricecut. SONY didnt redesign the PS3 and cut the price in half just for one month surge of sales.

LOL, you are a joke man, "cut the price in half" ...

also it is not like Xbox360 Elite direct competitor gets a price cut AT THE SAME TIME lol

and it is not like the console did 550k first week

= was it worth in term of short term sales (not profit !) = YESSSSSSSSSS

and about longterme effect I ask it to you again :

HOW DO U WANT US TO KNOW WE ARE ONLY 1 MONTH AFTER  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont understand what you say. And about the PS3 it did cut the price in half its 599 when its launched. Now its 299

That much is obvious

Maybe the OP should read a book or two instead of creating hundreds (thousands?) of inane threads in this forum? Just a thought.

I find it funny that you are rumbling about the price cuts that worked, and yet you fail to mention the price cut that didn't work, not one bit.

The 360 Elite got a $100 price drop and then MS offered a $50 rebate on top of that.

Again, whats the 360 got to do with he topic? Are we discussing the 360 here?

again, you're a troll. My question was legit, unless if all pricecuts were succesful the GC could outselling Xbox and PS2 right now.

Both price cuts will only be temporary boosts. The PS3's boost is already running out of steam, and the Wii's boost will probably run out some time during the holidays (though given the overlap with the holiday boost it will probably be impossible to tell exactly when this happens). That's how price cuts work: a quick boost to try and get ahead before sales settle back into the normal curve.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

YES - http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=90390
299$ PS3 is now converting x360 fanboys into PS3 fanboys!

Also - http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=89327
PS3 is doing better, than x360 last year. And x360 is doing worse, than PS3 last year.

I'm pretty sure the slim had a large role in the renewal of sales for the PS3. that and the 25% price decrease, it always helps.

Nintendo had only 20%, so it's normal to see a decrease, but really... the thing had been selling like hotcakes for 2 years, can we really expect a pricecut to have much of an effect on it's sales?

OoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoO

Clearly PS3 got price cuts because Sony wanted to sell more PS3's. They wanted to sell more PS3's because they were not happy with the pre-price cut level of sales. So far the reason for cutting the price seems to be working. Whether and by how much PS3 is/was outselling the Wii is irrelevant.

Nintendo had to cut the price of the Wii, otherwise it would have found its sales continuing to drop. It would still have been selling good numbers relative to PS3 and 360 but not relative to it's own past performance. So far it seems like the price cut is working in that the Wii's sales levels have stopped dropping and have gone up compared to recent months.

Microsoft had to cut the price of the Elite, otherwise 360 sales would have taken a dive. It would simply be unsustainable for the Elite to be more expensive than the PS3 in its major markets. So far it seems to have worked in that 360 sales outside of the US have stabilised and in the US 360 sales have increased slightly.

I would say all three pricing strategies have achieved their minimum intended goal. Of the 3 consoles I'd say only the PS3 could be argued to have exceeded expectations. Though for some people on this site PS3 has not achieved the sales heights hoped for.

If you are expecting more from pricing adjustments than the companies were aiming for then it is your failure to comprehend each company's strategy. Not the company's failure to achieve your expectations.

If moving off the bottom of the weekly console sales charts and more than tripling sales from previous months isn't progressive (not helping) then I don't know what is.

Temporary???

Everything in life IS temporary.

If you mean the Wii did the Wii have more sales weekly last year compared to this year?

Yush, it's all relative. Recently a lot has been said about the wii YoY decrease in sales and the x360 YoY increase in sales.

MS positives:

1) YoY increase is good.

MS negatives:

1) 1yr (1 and a half years in Europe) more time on the market and 22million behind wii.

2) Cheapest console on the market for a while now and still can't compete with wii.

Wii positives:

1) Still kicking as regardless and comfortably outselling the other consoles yearly (don't bring handhelds into the argument).

Wii negatives:

2) YoY sales decline.

PS3 positves:

1) Finally an affordable price and paying dividends.

PS3 negatives:

1) Could all be a little too late but profit at the end of it all is looking likely.

Isnt because the Wii have no worthwhile games in holiday 2008 till present why the downward of sales in summer season? And not because people cant afford the Wii even in recession? Because lets admit it, the casuals are too tired of Wii Sports and other 3rd party titles right now why even WM+ and WSR created and Wii fit plus if not for thiose reasons? I think the Wii was already in casual saturation already, Nintendo needs a new content to pleased the casuals...

@ctalkeb-----> The topic is if the pricecut really actually help the PS3 and the Wii. Not why I appear for videogames to be depressing. which leads you not on topic and you only post to troll me.

That might very well be the reason.

Maybe the wii sold so well in it's first 2 years that a YoY decrease was obvious, by that i mean market saturation.

I don't know.

Either way let's face it,  there is no company that won't like to be in nintendos current situation at any point in the history of console gaming.
