I dunno, the british are more closer to RPG games of a japanese style then the americans are, look at this gens prrince of persia, it could be compared to many types of japanese games.

The combat. they even said while making prince of persia that Final Fantasy VII Advent Children and Soul Calibur IV (Square Enix and Namco both japanese) inspired them to make PoP battle system.
