I have Premium Vista and like it. I'm getting Windows 7 though. So Windows 7 is faster? Cool. What about security? Is it a lot safer?

Nope it isn't faster.

There's no point in upgrading to Windows 7 if you already have Vista.

Also Vista is very secure as long as you don't turn UAC off.

Besides if you don' browse porn sites, don't download warez and don't open every attachment people sent you in e-mail you shouldn't worry too much about safety of your pc.

Damn that's quite the limit, 192 GB of ram!

It'll probably be 2020 by the time that's needed

Rumor has it that Microsoft is working on Windows 8 to make it 128-bit compatible. Search www.windows8news.com for the info; it should be in the front page, and it's also on the www.windows7news.com as well. With 128-bit processors, our computers (32- or 64-bit) wouldn't be able to handle such power. Laptops are already getting past 6 GB of RAM; luckily I can upgrade from 4 to 8 GB of RAM on this current laptop. I'm going to try and hold it over for the next few years with this laptop or until something bad happens to it; then I'm going to get a custom-built laptop from HP, so I'll select another Blu-Ray drive and a better graphics card (I'm sticking with Nvidia no matter what anyone says).

Well I don't do any of that ;)

Still, I'm upgrading to Windows 7. I'm getting 2 CDs for each of my two new PCs.

Well it's your cash and time which you will be spending on upgrading ;)

You can look at xp mode, which is a virtual machine running on windows 7. Microsoft offers it for free which is really nice. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx they give step by step instructions and the best part is you don't have to be inside of the virtual machine to use it. You can use the applications right from your start menu.

I noticed a huge performance boost in Final Fantasy XI; it moved faster and more fluidly on Windows 7 than on Vista. That was the first thing I checked. Have you not read my other comments on this thread with me stating this? Could be that older games get a performance boost, as FFXI is based on the PS2 architecture (for the PC version, yet it is more flexible with its resolution and options).

My post meant did anyone else notice some major/minor graphical/physics updates? Like I mentioned for me on FFXI. I mean, my Paladin was attacking REALLY fast (including the Goblin Smithy) and more fluidly than before. Plus my character ran more fluidly as well. And my armor/weapons and the Goblin's armor was all shiny too.

Windows 7 comes with a pretty good software renderer, so perhaps the CPU was running a higher spec Direct X version than your GPU could provide?

Tease.

Let's be serious - last game that could have been run comfortably on CPU only was Quake 2 or 3 something around that date.

If significant performance difference is visible  then it's probably coming from GPU drivers.

http://www.anandtech.com/systems/showdoc.aspx?i=3666&p=7

here's another bunch of performance tests than show performance differences  to be well below measurement error margin (only area of improvement here is moving huge amounts of files through storage system).

Been running 7 Ultimate RTM since 1st August and its rock solid, haven't even installed antivirus. IE8 on W7 is rock solid and super fast.

Those that say W7 is what Vista should have been are wrong. Windows 7 is so stable because of architecture changes in Vista. Those changes were what caused so many problems due to lazy developers not taking it seriously. Without the teething problems of Vista we'd never have a product like W7. You could say it was the recession we had to have.
