Forums - Sales - Did Nintendo Wii Beat Xbox 360, PS3 in September After All?

Well as September NPD ends the 6th (?) of October and misses out 1st and 2nd of September it's possible that for the actual calender month the Wii was still the best seller by numbers too, particularly as according to this site the Halo hype wasnt a sharp spike for one week but more of a pointed bump.

Kind of a misleading title on this thread... Yes, it certainly was/is a victory for the Wii to continue to hang close to the 360 when Halo 3 hit the street... The price and target audience does help quite a bit more on the Wii side. This holiday will be interesting... The 360 sold (worldwide) about 3 million consoles from Oct 1 to Dec 31 2006. The PS3 did a LOT less, but didn't have Europe and was $600. I think that price actually pushed a lot of people who were on the sidelines for the next gen to go ahead and get a 360 as the PS3 was pricewise out of reach for many. This holiday will be different, for sure... A lower PS3 pricetag, global PS3 availability, an Actual PS3 game library, higher penetration/awareness of HDTV, more awareness of High Definition Disk Formats (Blu-ray in particular), a whole lot more DVD players that upscale standard DVD to 1080i/p and so on. All these will combine to produce a climate where the PS3 is much more competitive.

The Wii is still going to sell very, very well. I think Nintendo is blowing smoke, though, as I don't believe they will have the level of hardware available they had last year through the holidays. Maybe they will release 1 million or so extra around Thanksgiving/black Friday, but I can't imagine they are sitting on "millions".

Regardless of how it plays out, this holiday is going to be interesting.

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)
Systems I've owned: PS2, PS1, Dreamcast, Saturn, 3DO, Genesis, Gamecube, N64, SNES, NES, GBA, GB, C64, Amiga, Atari 2600 and 5200, Sega Game Gear, Vectrex, Intellivision, Pong.  Yes, Pong.

Wii never BEATS competitive systems. It was created to make competitions irrilevant.

And one thing to notice is, that the numbers presented in the starting post are NA numbers. No wait, aren't NPD numbers US only? And VGC North-America.

And welcome to VGChartz Robert.
ps. a little hint for you, if you write Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, you should write Wii, and if you write Nintendo Wii, you should Write Sony Playstation 3 and Micro$oft 360. Otherwise you sound like an amateur who don't know what you are talking about.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

Misleading title.

The Wii didn't beat the X360 because it didn't beat it in sales. Simple as that. Nevertheless, the Wii did phenominal, and continues to sell real well, despite the fact that there were oh-so many consoles sold it September - 1.1m to be exact.

Nintendo "wins" by being able to face a strong Xbox 360 and not flounder in sales. The question is how long does that continue - forever? or not?

The real console wars started November 22nd, 2005. If you prefer to postpone the date till the PS3 has some software - feel free too, it has a long, devastating road to go before it gains any ground.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

JAN 1 08 will be the TRUE start line of the console war!

Let me guess, because "Sony said so!?"

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

I think the true start will be September 2010

If there is such a thing as "console wars," they ended in 2005 when the then Revolution controller was first shown off.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

I'd say it'll be when the 2012 olympics come round LOL!
