Forums - Sony - Final Fantasy XIII Is Install-Free

No he didn't. He just doesn't have a clue. Since Final Fantasy is a linear game and the engine is loaded in memory why on earth would it have an install? The only way an install would benefit a game like this is if you installed the WHOLE game on the hard drive excluding the FMV videos.

Other games have installs for loading the game quickly because the important asssets that get reused all the time are on the hard drive. So 3d fighters for example where the characterstage modelstextures can be realisticlly installed because they don't take much space.

Talk about ignorance.

There are plenty of extremely linear games which have huge installs on PS3, mostly from Capcom. Devil May Cry 4. RE5.

Final Fantasy games are known for being extremely large. Several discs on both PS1 and PS2. Furthermore, FF13 is a multiplat game. It doesn't have the optimisation that exclusives get.

Basically, most developers would have been lazy and included some sort of install. SE didn't.

Also this means that the Xbox 360 version will most likely load more quickly between areas. lol

If a Final Fantasy can fit on Blu-ray with no installs, no other developer has ANY excuse.

This. I said it before and I'll say it again. Killzone2 and Uncharted2 are putting a lot of third party games to shame.

I remember that horrendous 22Minute 5GB install for DMC4. After playing that game I was left wondering if that game was even 5GB itself!!

4 ≈ One

Thats good, I am running out of space on my PS3 HDD

Trophy support on PS3! ZOMG!!

Also, Kantor, which Final Fantasy spanned several discs on the PS2?

FF games are definitely not that linear doobie.  For some FF's it's linear when you start, but there are many times when you get to choose what you want to do, how to do it and where to go.  It's just generally not non-linear in terms of story, but not in what you choose to do.  Also, it has always been a free roaming series.

This will only take a moment of your time. *steals your watch*

Seriously im like drooling thinking if they have like Trophy for ...defeating Ultima Weapon and Omega Weapon like in FFVIII ...ahaha man i hope those monsters make it in the game.

Theonly one I can think of is maybe FF XI  and that probably because of the expansions.   None of the others did

Didn't they? I know the PS1 games did, and everyone was making such a big deal about FF finally being on one disc.

I'm not sure, I don't own any.

I know the day is only just beginning but I'm pretty sure this is going to be by far the funniest thing I'm going to read today.

I love it when people pretend to know what they're talking about when they have *absolutely* no clue what's going on.  The icing on the cake?  You call everyone else ignorant!  XD

-edit-

Slightly on topic, but I'm about 70% sure I'll be installing it anyways if I do get it.
