Final Fantasy XIII Is Install-Free

It's become increasingly common for games to feature a mandatory install — you have no choice! Final Fantasy XIII is not one of those games.

The game, which will be released this December in Japan on the PS3, will not feature a mandatory install.

That being said, the only time players will see load times is during transitions from town to field — once players are in the field, the game is seamless.

According to Square Enix's Motomu Toriyama, the development explored ways to lessen load times early on in development to create as seamless as possible experience.

Final Fantasy XIII, it's also been revealed, will feature PlayStation 3 Trophy support.

If a Final Fantasy can fit on Blu-ray with no installs, no other developer has ANY excuse.

Good news for the 20-40GB PS3 owners

wow, S-E they must have talked with naughty dog or Guerilla games lol. Capcom needs to learn from them. At least, S-E is close to home

Great news, and as Kantor said, this will debunk the excuses for almost every mandatory install on the PS3, it's all about optimization each team makes.

That's good to hear. Seems like SE has put in a lot of effort into making the game close to seamless. Very good to see.

Kantor summed it up nicely.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

why do they always show that girl ?
more Vannille would be nice!

No he didn't. He just doesn't have a clue. Since Final Fantasy is a linear game and the engine is loaded in memory why on earth would it have an install? The only way an install would benefit a game like this is if you installed the WHOLE game on the hard drive excluding the FMV videos.

Other games have installs for loading the game quickly because the important asssets that get reused all the time are on the hard drive. So 3d fighters for example where the character\stage models\textures can be realisticlly installed because they don't take much space.

Talk about ignorance.

Also this means that the Xbox 360 version will most likely load more quickly between areas. lol
