uhuh....*rolls eyes* does nobody read the OPs anymore, I said forget live exists. I don't need a comparison because those trollfests "discussions" happen almost daily around here. How much would you pay for PSN if it wasn't a free service.

Don't forget your helmet there, Master Chief!

I have to bring up this thread again.

I apologized for the Netflix thing, but now I wonder why. $4.99/month plan has only 2 hours of instant streaming and only 2 DVDs per month. I other words, stupid plan.

Anyways, ironman, my opinion is not flawed. To be honest I don't even think you answered any of my questions yet.

#1. What makes XBL worth $50/year to do online gaming when pretty much everyone else offers the same exact experience for free and in some cases, also does it on dedicated servers as opposed to P2P?

#2. How is porn sites the same thing as paying for XBL? With a porn site you pay to access content you do not already have. I do not own those porn movies, so I pay to have access to them. If not for that service I would need to go to a store and purchase them.

#3. Movie services like Netflix are also ENTIRELY different. Paying to access movies you do not own is completely different than paying to access something you do in fact already own. Just sit there and think about that for a little while.

You do not pay to cover bandwidth. You implying that if bandwidth was free that netflix would just give us all free access to tons of movies that they obviously need to pay fees to be allowed to host in the first place? Come on now bro, give me a break. That is a HORRIBLE example.

All others things aside though, I really just want an honest answer to question #1. Give me a valid reason as to why it is right to pay $60 to only have half of my game, then be asked to pay more just to access the other half, all while my console's competitors DO NOT ask me to pay?

To make matters worse, why should I be asked to pay for bandwidth when anyone with a good pair of eyes can see and understand full well that the vast amount of advertisement on LIVE, even for those who pay, are there for that very reason, to pay for bandwidth costs.

You kind of dodged it the last time and continued to go on your tirade about why my argument fails and yours succeeds.

I am all fine if someone wants to pay, but in no way is my argument a failure. It is actually a very good argument, not to mention that I have brought up numerous situations that show why.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

@ Euphoria, I am not saying you are wrong in not wating to play to pay, I am just pointing out how shallow that argument about paying for internet so everything that uses the internet should be free. Netflix was just one example. what about other movie streaming sites that offer an online service that you have to pay for...are they ripping you off because you have to pay them to use your internet? What about porn sites? You do realize there are free alternatives to those as well, and yet, I never hear anybody bitching about paying for any of that.

@Greyian, there are free altrenatives like XBC so your argument is moot.

Sorry but online multiplayer doesnt take a special network, it only takes internet. So once your paying for internet you should in fact be good to play online multiplayer (im not talking about playstation store or xbl store). Euphoria has a good logic behind is argument since he was specifically talking of online multiplayer. There is no excuse for a company to act like that, if they wanna charge for online multiplayer they should host the game on their server, if not then leave the online multiplayer separate from xbl or psn.

Ah, so when you log into your Xbox, it just magically finds people to play with online? No, EVERY P2P service needs servers to match people together XBC a FREE service that allows you to LAN "fools" you xbox into thinking it's LANed with other people uses a server, you are paying for those servers in the case of XBL, that and extra features. by you logic, since I am paying for internet, I should be good for watching streamed video and porn from pay sites, free online. god, at least have consistancy. I have no problem with you not wanting to pay to play, I do have a problem with your argument because it's flawed, and so was Euphoria's.

Ouf man, you didnt read what I was saying it seems, your the flawest person here, I will not bother talking with you anymore since its not possible to have a good discussion with someone soooo stubborn. Think about someting tho: we can sill play free online multiplayer on dreamcast  :P. Wow I guess sega is loosing a lot of cash to support servers right ?

And between since the only thing you wanted was to argue with someone I guess you missed the part where I was saying that I would agree to pay a bit for access to store, demo and stuff.

It happens, I don't fault you for that, at least you had the decensy to check your facts. Anyway, the two hour deal is new since I was last a member.

Anyways, ironman, my opinion is not flawed. To be honest I don't even think you answered any of my questions

I never said your opinion was flawed, I would be an idiot to even think that. However the argument you are using to back up your opinion is horribly flawed, and that is what I have been trying to point out to you. All your question have been amswered...more than once.

#1. What makes XBL worth $50/year to do online gaming when pretty much everyone else offers the same exact experience for free and in some cases, also does it on dedicated servers as opposed to P2P?

What makes video streaming services worth the money when everybody else offers them for free? To me XBL is worth the money because I can play with friends who live hours away, and even in differant countries, Friends who don't have a PS3. And I can play multiplayer on games like Halo3, something that the PS3 doesn't have.

#2. How is porn sites the same thing as paying for XBL? With a porn site you pay to access content you do not already have. I do not own those porn movies, so I pay to have access to them. If not for that service I would need to go to a store and purchase them.

With XBL you pay to access the online multiplayer portions of the games. That is something you don't have when you purchase a game.

#3. Movie services like Netflix are also ENTIRELY different. Paying to access movies you do not own is completely different than paying to access something you do in fact already own. Just sit there and think about that for a little while.

See above comment, you are paying for a service in all three cases!!! Just sit there and think about that for a LONG while, because obviously you missed it the first 100 times I pointed it out.

You do not pay to cover bandwidth. You implying that if bandwidth was free that netflix would just give us all free access to tons of movies that they obviously need to pay fees to be allowed to host in the first place? Come on now bro, give me a break. That is a HORRIBLE example.

With XBL you do not pay to cover bandwith any more than you do with streaming services. YOU ARE PAYING FOR SERVERS WITH XBL. YOU NEED SERVERS TO MATCH PEOPLE TOGETHER!!! Why don't you get that?

All others things aside though, I really just want an honest answer to question #1. Give me a valid reason as to why it is right to pay $60 to only have half of my game, then be asked to pay more just to access the other half, all while my console's competitors DO NOT ask me to pay?

OMG WE DO NOT PAY FOR BANDWITH< WE PAY FOR A SERVICE AND THE RESOURCES IT TAKES TO CREAT SAID SERIVE!!!

You kind of dodged it the last time and continued to go on your tirade about why my argument fails and yours succeeds.

Nope, answered that NUMEROUS times.

I am all fine if someone wants to pay, but in no way is my argument a failure. It is actually a very good argument, not to mention that I have brought up numerous situations that show why.

Yes, yes your argument is a falure. Your xbox 360/ PS3/Wii CANNOT link up to other people's systems without a middleman, without something that you DON'T have. All your situations fail because of that one simple fact that you continue to ignore even though I have shoved it in your face time and time again.

@ Icyedge,

Really, try reading everything I have been sauiong and then ask me why I am ROTFLMAO.

P2P networks over the web need some sort of a server. Xbox live has servers, those servers connect 360's together, and then turn the server status over to one of the 360 (or the host) Now, lets face it, a P@P network is basically a LAN, can you LAN over the internet? Not without a special program or good amount of network tweaking on everybodies part, XBL streamline the process and makes it a "plug and play" operation.

I didn't want to argue with anybody, but people persist in bringing up failed arguments to defend their right to choose to pay or not.

What you are siuggesting I am doing is  saying that nobody should have to pay for Windows or OSX because Linux exists...

*Shakes head* when you get a clue, we can talk, untill then, go ahead, stay away from my thread (although I know you will be back for another dosage because you people always come back for more.)

Maybe 10 bucks a year it had cross game chat.

Otherwise.... I wouldn't pay anything. Online gaming should be free.

well, in a few months, even that would not be a reason to pay for it since you guys will be getting that feature.

if it was pay-to-use from the start i probably woudn't use it, if now it suddenly was pay-to-use i'd probably pay 15-20 a year at the most

If it were mandatory to pay for online play, I'd do my online gaming on PC only. Out of principle.

Agreed. I bought the system. I bought the games to play online. I refuse to pay a fee to do what I already paid for.

I have moved and do not have the internet at home, yet.

You didn't buy the service that allows you to play online. Just the game and the option to use the service. Please don't tell me you think paying for a service like XBL or PSN is like paying for your internet connection twice. Becuase I just got done pointing out that it isn't (for the one millionth time)
