I'm not saying that this isn't a good deal, but my point is that consumers would be wise to consider the big picture, especially when these kneejerk go out and buy knind of promotions are happening. Look, if you think that it is a great deal and are exited about HD-DVD go nuts and get some more movies.

dude, give it up.  There are 9, neuf, kyu, nueve, neun, HD DVDs added on.  If the list has contains titles the user wants, it's a FREE player.  20 bucks per movie.  Free player.  If you never bought another movie for it, ever, you got your money's worth.  If I bought one and HD DVD lost, I'd most certainly get over it.

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)

I wouldn't. I've never heard of heroes so I could care less if I got a season's worth of episodes, and if I don't think that HD-DVD has any chance of surviving, the HD-DVDs are only useful as DVDs, which could be purchased for $10 a pop.

Dude ... you have NEVER HEARD OF HEROES?!

"Save the cheerleader, save the world ..."

@ GooseGaws
Sweet - thanks for the info. I know I will likely get The Matrix soon - off eBay or craigslist. I NEVER pay full price unless I have to ...

I really haven't heard of Heroes until this thread.  The thing of it is though is that if you are going to put out a free season of a series, it would be better it would be something that was on par with Seinfeld, whatever show that everybody watches. Or mabey that is an accurate description and I just work too much haw haw

HMMMMM star wars in hd.... that would seal the deal for me!!! I would actually buy whatever platform i had too to watch my beloved star wars in hd.

i have never watched heroes, but i will now if i don't like it i will sell it, actually even if i do i will sell it

@ Dallas
Man, Heroes is one of the most popular shows - dang, even G4 said getting the reruns was the biggest news in the history of G4. Regardless, if you resold the movies, and got the ones you wanted anyhow, you would still be ahead.

this is a sign of desperation when one format feels strong enough to price its players ar $500 and give 5 free next-gen DVDs, and the other feels the need to price its players at $250, and give away 7 free dvds plus a $99-valued Heroes box set. Meanwhile, it seems that every week another company defects to the BD-camp. oh well, don't say that I didn't warn y'allabout te quick gimmicks

Kind of like a certain video game console that keeps on having to lower its prices and bundle games for free.

fishy, oh yeah that's definitely true, but the thing of it is that I am also juding the merits of both the format and console by their future potential as opposed to what is happening only at the moment. It's just my opinion of course but I think that the PS3 has a lot more potential as an existing product than the HD-DVD format.

I thought a couple of large companies actually just became exclusive to HD-DVD... maybe I was drinking at the time and am now confused...
