Forums - Sony - PS3 Cross game chat????

I doubt I will be making much if any use of such a feature. But could be a nice extra for some people who really want this. Personally I disable the message notifications as well while gaming.

If I really wanted this I already have my laptop in my living room... But if I do receive a phone call or something I pause the game... Voice communication within a game like Warhawk can add to the online gaming experience (within Playstation Home, etc this can also be useful), but talking with people who play an entirely different game than you're playing seems a bit useless to me personally.

I am a bit surprised many people request this instead of for instance instant video pop-up messages (for instance which can be disabled for specifically gaming, movie watching, etc) or something as simple as an agenda with alarm and popup notification functionality. I can imagine so many different features, which seem more useful or interesting to me than this one.

And yet I just know that if psn had it and live didnt you would be all over it... its a useful feature.  How can it be anything but that?  You dont HAVE to answer the request to have the chat, you can chose to ignore it.

I very much doubt that. I rarely use video chat and always turned off message notifications.

Maybe useful to some, but I do have to wonder if not the bulk of who have a good enough internet connection probably have a normal computer if really 'needed' for this sort of thing.

It just doesn't sound like a 'killer feature' to me the way it's hyped up to be, but maybe Sony will surprise me.

it isnt a killer feature... its a feature. how can sony suprise you?.. cross game chat is cross game chat...

If I knew how to make this useful to me, it wouldn't be a surprise or would it?

Anyway me from 2007:

"Apparently in-game XMB support and many other more difficult to implement features are already planned for future updates. Strange the mentioned above small but important improvements aren’t already implemented."

In the beginning I also stated the PS3 launched with an immature firmware. So your allegation within this thread is unfounded.

1. First off Xbox has had it for ages because when your paying $60 per year for it there needs to be more features. We're lucky PSN is as good as it is based on it being free.

2. I'm hoping the rumours are true and its the next update. I think the in-game XMB was more requested then cross game chat though back when we didn't have either.

PSN already has cross-game chat. I might be able to find a picture of it.

so disable it, or just ignore it... whats the problem?

Even if I do not use it other people using it still affects me.

Someone using cross game chat is even worse than someone who does not have a mic.  At least people without a mic can still hear me so if I tell them to go capture something while I get something else they may actually listen.

In Uncharted 2 for example I'm heading to cap base 4 in a chain reaction and I tell someone without a mic "I'm gonna cap base 4 someone go to base 5 now to cap it instantly after" and usually someone actually will.  If they where using cross game chat they'd have no clue I was gonna do that.

i didnt think of that, and in a game like MAG also, when its very tactical and your taken orders of your sqad leader or somethin that wouldnt work with cross game chat. though i would like to talk to my friends on PSN who normally play different games to me.

A fair complaint, but lets be honest if your playing with randoms there is unlikely to be much tactical discussion.

it's an overrated feature. The only reason people talk about it so much is because it's a thing live has that psn does not.
