The next the DS will of course have a built-in Vitality Sensor. :p
You know, now that I think about it... I wouldn't be surprised. It's Nintendo after all...

I am not sure there is much of anything Nintendo can do to innovate what they already have here. Thee expectations (from myself at least) are exceptionally high.
Good luck to them. I doubt this rumor has any merit.

2010 is perfectly plausible. Nintendo loves their 5 year lifecycles, which held true for SNES-N64, N64-GC, GC-Wii, and GBA-DS transitions. Actually, fall/winter of 2010 would put the DS at a 6 year lifecycle (for the US at least). I wouldn't be surprised if they continue to sell the DSi for $99-129 by the time the new DS2 launches though.
Hardware is only a means to enjoy great games!

While on the go, you stick something into the Vitality Sensor while watching a Nintendo video...!
Joking.

2010 is too early for a new handheld. Nintendo has recently released a handheld ~1-2 years before their new console. I'm guessing the Wii 2 is coming in 2012, so a 2011 DS2 seems plausible.
However, with the DS's current monstrous momentum, the new DS could be delayed to even 2013. The original Game Boy did last like 9 years.

While I personally don't think 2010 is too early for a new handheld (the DS will be 6 years old) I'm not so sure I believe the rumour ...
For several iterations of hardware, Nintendo has avoided using any component unless there were two manufacturers who could produce the component or unless Nintendo owned the IP or had manufacturing rights to it. The main reasons for this are that Nintendo doesn't want one manufacturer to act as a bottleneck for their system's production, and Nintendo doesn't want to be put in the position where they have to redesign or replace their system because one component doesn't exist anymore; if you look at the past couple of generations of hardware you can see that Nintendo's fears are well founded based on what has happened to their competition.
From my (limited) understanding, nVidia has never been too successful at negotiating with Nintendo primarily because nVidia is very protective of their IP and Nintendo's requirements simply can't be met by them. Now, this could have changed, but I personally wouldn't be betting on it ...

PS2 yes, but gamecube no. The Gamecube and Xbox were more in competition, while the Dreamcast and PS2 on the other spectrum if you argue graphical capabilities. Even then, there are very few PSP games that best what the PS2 offers. |
difference was minimal.
if u look at the polygon count and textures.
games like dissidia, crisis core and god of war are making a stand up.

Then if you look at Shading and Lighting the gamecube and Xbox were far ahead of the other two. Your point? The difference between the Dreamcast/PS2 and Xbox/Gamecube is minimal if you look at it from a generation scale, but within that scale there is quite a difference. For a Handheld this is even more substantial seeing as they don't really need or get much power from the start.
If/when they do release the next DS i hope they will give the graphics that big push it needs.
