The same could be said of Link always winning in these type of polls.

But Link has that internet popularity. Always has.

So does Gordon.

GameFAQS (same exact forums as Gamespot) has been doing the same Video Game Character contest for ~8 years now.

Gordon has never done well in the tournament. Mario, Link, Cloud, and Sephiroth were always by far the most popular. There were a few other big characters, but Link was always dominant.

I never said Link wasn't popular.

I just said Gordon was also popular.

You don't beat Snake, Link and Mario one after the other without a good set of popularity behind you.

I don't know if he even should be in the game at all...and he beat Samus!

 

Wow, I've now taken a look at the "heroes" and...man some shouldn't be here...

And I haven't played Shadow of the Colossus, but I have a hard time to see Ryu being a greater hero than Wander...

 

 

They should change the title...

4chan was earlier in the poll when Bub and Bob were winning.

yea a few of my friends are big 4chan goers and they were all into getting bub and bob to win. Apparently gamespot reveresd the numbers though to put them out. Just what I was told.

Someone brought up Half-Life sales, but I honestly wonder how legitimate that can be. I bet there's a large number of those people who don't care about Gordon at all. For one, Gordon is a character you never see or hear in the game, so he doesn't exactly leave a large impression on most gamers (hence, the "who is Gordon?"). It's not a slight to the character or game, that's just how it is. Secondly:

Counter-Strike.


Using this poll as being representative that Gordon is more popular than other characters (or his popularity at all) wouldn't make any sense, especially considering the Steam advertising behind a ton of recent votes. By that logic, apparently Bub and Bob must be popular characters since they beat Master Chief?

The poll has no credibility for measuring such a thing.


Btw, while Snake was close, Link was about 50-50 with Gordon as well. On the last day Steam rolled him over (Snake managed to avoid such a fate, lucky him).
