Forums - Sony - Could Uncharted 2 push PS3 sales above 300,000 and if so, how much?

Throughout all of October, I think it's possible. The releases of Demon's Souls, Tekken 6, Uncharted 2, and Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time combined should help move a good amount of consoles.

Rockstar: Announce Bully 2 already and make gamers proud!

Kojima: Come out with Project S already!

I think Uncharted 2 is already moving units. I think a good few people buying the PS3 slim right now already have Uncharted 2 in mind

It just adds to the pile of exclusives giving more people a reason to buy a ps3.

I guess you can say it'll indirectly push sales.

The difference is ODST and Wii Fit are exapansions. They offer nothing that Halo 3 and Wii Fit didn't.

Uncharted was not hugely hyped. It didn't recieve any major awards or high critical acclaim. Its first week sales were pathetic.

Uncharted 2 is massively hyped. It already has a bunch of awards from E3. It's the hot favourite for GOTY 09 and is one of the highest rated games of all time. It also has competive and co-op mutliplayer. It seems likely to sell around 1 million copies in the first week.

The first Uncharted wasn't the kind of game you buy a system for. Uncharted 2 is.

Eh, I see all of these reasons pointing towards strong software sales, but as for hardware? There will be a push no doubt, but I don't see it doing anything drastic.

I could be wrong though, in fact... im wrong a lot of the time. And that's why I don't have my own sales website.

We'll see soon enough.

Uncharted 2 will only be able to push console sales in bundles. If sold alone, they will not inspire many system purchases.

The thing about Uncharted 2, and Halo ODST, and WiiFit Plus (among other games) is that they're sequels. Sequels to games that have debuted on the respective console earlier this generation (Uncharted, Halo 3, and WiiFit respectively).

I really think that the original games had carved out an audience for each console that wasn't there before. In other words, they were system sellers. Now, the audience that these games created are still here. And they're eagerly anticipating each game (See: ODST and WiiFit Plus software sales). But will these games create a brand new audience that will drastically increase hardware sales? I doubt it.

nah, uncharted has never been a system seller, it was an new IP ...

Was... erm... that really necessary?

Anywho, I do believe that the original was a system seller, but not in the flashy 3 week sales barrage that we see of many other titles.

Uncharted has sold 2,500,000 copies on the PS3. Being that it is a brand new IP, one would say that this game created a brand new audience for the system as well. An audience that has come to know and love Drake. Now, with the release of Uncharted 2, do you really think that this new game is going to create brand spankin' new audience of another million or so, ready to buy PS3's? Or will the audience that Uncharted 1 created come back to buy the sequel?

Sure, Uncharted 2 will create a larger audience, we're seeing it already here on VGChartz. But will it create anything substantial, like... boost PS3 sales to 300,000 on its launch week. I doubt it.

Doubt it... it will probably give a small week over week boost of ~ 20-50k, but I doubt it will be that big. Still it would be nice
