Shhhh, don't mention things like the PS3 was released a year after XBox, come swith BluRay, is always free to Play Online, comes with Wireless controllers, fails 1% of time ect. it might make all the XBox fanbois do some math and realized how crappy their system is. They're just kids ya know!

Enjoy your ban

OT: The PS3 is selling like a beast while i doubt it will take second place it honestly doesnt matter. Neither of the HD consoles are going to suffer from lack of games. So in the end what place they ended up in is neggligable! Hurray for gaming

Long Live SHIO!

I think that PS3 will surpass 360 in Europe in the beginning of 2010.

Aligned launches?

If you put it from PS3 launch, i think 360 is still in the lead.

Nope, if they were aligned, the PS3 sold fatser than the 360. Still doesn't prove anything, except, Sony has a stronger brand name, but they are still losing right now to the 360.

no you misunderstand what carl said...

since the PS3 launched...

PS3: 25,029,266

360: 27,083,933

since the PS3 has been available it has been outsold by over 2 million.

I see. Didn't catch that, thanks...

The formulation they are suggesting is not aligned launches, though.  It's measuring sales of both consoles from the moment the later console is released, which isn't the same thing.  Prices are higher at the beginning (especially for PS3) and there are likely supply constraints as well.  So they have PS3 at its most expensive and supply constrained vs 360 at its cheapest and least supply constrained.

True that if we look at it like kowenicki wants to, the numbers favor 360.  While aligned launches favors PS3.  It's just that with aligned launches PS3 is ahead by far more than the gap they show above (counting numbers for both consoles since PS3 release).

Anyway, now the price drops have hit and let's watch what happens during the holidays.

The brand was tarnished from the early pricepoints, I agree. That doesn't mean the system quality was the cause though...

agree with u

actually the quality of the system is way better than PS1 and PS2

but sony thought thats just becuz it said PS3 on it it will sell like hotcakes and it didnt

sony should learn from that for next gen

just like microsoft with rrod chaos

25 million, nice, hopefully Sony can make it 30 by the end of this fiscal year in March!!!

FOREVER IN DARKNESS!!!

Why is SkyNet wearing a PS3 Logo???

IF we take brand names out of the discussion for a sec (humor me):

Company A has a strangle hold on the video game market last gen (to the tune of 70% market share). This gen, given their pricing structure and costs of development, they are fighting a huge under-dog from last gen...for SECOND place this gen. A fight they are still currently losing (though gaining).

Given this, do you think Company A is honestly happy that if you use some fuzzy math (aligned launches don't really affect total sales at all, do they?) they are doing slightly better than there closest competitor and have less than half the market share of the leader?

You should have gone for the kill and mentioned that Company A also lost about $5 billion in order to achieve their "victory".

Oh but Nintendo is the only winner there...  MS has lost a ton as well.  Good thing I have Wii also!

Soo much nostalgia in this thread......havent seen an op with the ol'ps3 is ahead of 360 in sales,in a long time.

(Now if you align them isnt the 360 ahead of the ps3?)

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

op....do us all a favour an shoot yourself.
