When you think about it's not that surprising that Ps3 will be the 4th fastest selling (it's 3rd right now, but only for a few more weeks / months).

NES had the slowest start ever, ie, they created the new gaming industry. SNES was only the second system and launched late to a game market that is roughly half the size of todays gaming market. The next 3 generations leading consoles (PS1, PS2, and Wii) will all be above Ps3. And xbox 360 will be the 5th fastest selling console behind Ps3.

So I think it's unfair to compare xbox 360, Wii, and PS3 to systems like the NES and SNES. the 4th fastest selling console will still be in last place.

While PS2 is bigger than PS1, and Wii is bigger than PS2, I think they are all roughly equal in terms of sales pace due to the ever increasing size of the game industry.

the ps3 always was kicking ass, it just didnt look so because of the crazy wii sales which are even bigger than ps2 and the xbox releasing a year earlier. even though it has an extra 12 months of sales and even more in europe people will always make an excuse for it. but forget total sales, lets look at sales right now and at the moment ps3 is looking really good.

I would say your Wii is a tad low (I would say around 120 million) and your PS3 is a bit high (I would say 70 million).

I don't think so. The Xbox 360 will past those target long before the PS3 does. The PS3 will never catch the Wii.

Because it's funny. The PS3 is having a nice surge now, but after the holidays it'll be selling no better then the XBox 360 and the Wii will still be surging ahead. Once the price drop excitement wears off ( and it will, just like the Xbox 360) sale will be close to XBox 360 for most of this generation. It's all going to come down to games and what new things get offered. Microsoft has Twitter, Netflicks, Facebook, Natal, nice exclusives and Sony has HOME, Motion Sensor controller, some decent exclusives. I don't see the PS3 passing the PS2 in sales. If they ever do catch the XBox 360, it'll be too little too late.

Red- People said that would happen a week after the Slim launched. Look what happened there.

Green- That is purely your opinion. I personally think that the features you mentioned for 360 are pretty meh and i wont be using them. And as for exclusives, i think PS3 > 360.

Blue- Wait... Who said that will happen? The only home console this gen that has a chance of passing PS2 is Wii, and even that is unlikely imo.

This gen 3 of the top 5 selling consoles of all time are on the market. Crazy.

Nintendo 64 was not successfull.it's one of the greatest consoles but his sales were not great.
But good for ps3, with the 10 years plan it can really sell well compared to past consoles.

Last time I've spoken about success in terms of profit people attacked me, because they thought success just means numbers...now you only count profit, i don't know what to think...

IMO Nintendo 64 was surely a success for Nintendo, something like GC was not a failure, in economical terms...

But compared to his gen it was not a successful console or a fail in terms of sales. Over 30m is not bad with a monster like ps1!

Still, it was surely not the best Nintendo's console according to most people, something like SNES>NES>N64=Wii>GC (according to internet people, for me is very different :D).

Well if we we were talking actual profits, N64 beat the entirety of Sony Computer Entertainment from it's creation to today, across PS1, Ps2, Ps3, and PSP. That's why you never talk about profits when comparing a systems success in the game marketpalce, because Nintendo ALWAYS wins, even with the "failure" that was Gamecube.
