I picked up the game on Friday, didn't start playing properly until today, but, seriously, this game is fucking amazing.
I'm hooked, I only came off of it because my Facebook/MSN convos were building up on me.

Can you prove that?
Also, the games itself is fantastic.
I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.

NO NO, NO NO NO.
It's selling well. Will easily pass one million before the holidays and in the next few weeks will pass the sales of prototype on the 360
Not the games fault, VGC is bad at tracking Sony published games, Metal Gear Solid 4 has been 700k in Japan for 2 years.

he latched on to 2-3 games that VGChartz undertracked, but conveniently forgets all the games VGchartz overtracks. It is simple fanboyism. Every system has had games overtracked and undertracked. Every system has been overtracked and undertracked. However, depending on which console you are aligned with, that 1 console has more games undertracked and the console is always undertracked. It is the way things are. You don't need any proof to make this claim, just throw out a blanket statement. Motorstorm had a press release about sales, however the amount of undertracking is neglible as their claim was weird. Essentially x units (1m I think) shipped after 6 weeks. However, while this may lead you to believe that it is undertracked, it is possible that Sony massivly overshipped. |
I figured as much. Same with the post that is above this one. Just didn't want to jump to conclusions.

The bolded part indicates that people who have a 360 might have instead pirated the game from PC or bought it on PS3. The sales for the 360 version were hurt because it was a multiplat. Infamous sales(as with most PS3 exclusives) are helped on that single platform, because it isn't available somewhere else. In other words, if Infamous was a multiplat, it wouldn't have sold as much ON THE PS3. If Prototype was an exclusive, it would have sold more ON THE 360. All in all, Prototype sold much better despite less hype, probably less advertising, and certainly lower reviews, no matter what kind of bow you want to put on it. The question is why? Did the PS3 hold it back, or the game itself? Was it marketing? Does it matter? Prototype is now a marketable franchise. |
You missed the point I was trying to make: those two games were not sold in a vacuum so being exclusive or multi might not be the main efect the platform had on those sales. They were quite similar in genre and they released a few weeks apart. Every review and comment did pit them against each other, and while some people might have bought both, they were certainly for the most part directly competing products.
Prototype had competition for 100% of the PS3 owners, but only for those 360 owners who also own a PS3. Thus I expect higher sales on 360 than on PS3 - and I ignore the PC version that I consider equally available for PS3 and 360 owners.
On the other hand inFamous had competition on 100% of the PS3s, and that's it.
Unless the majority of gamers own a PS3 and a 360, the choice between the competing products must have affected sales more than the choice of which platform to buy Prototype for.
I've been meaning to get it forever.

It sold well, the reason why it didn't sell better isn't so much because Prototype was better or worse, or marketed better or worse... it's just that Prototype existed, the two games sucked sales away from each other, releasing almost simultaneously.
I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Uhm, you claim something and you don't have to prove it. I disagree and I have to prove it? You gave the initial comment, give your proof then =)
All in all, people were looking forward to prototype, bought it, enjoyed it for five minutes (hyperbolic statement), then realized it was only good fun to hack, bash and slash everything for a few minutes and the novelty wore off. Our gaming forum has had a LOT of re-sales of Prototype and people complaining about the game, while Infamous doesn't get that treatment. People were also talking about Prototype a whole lot more, because of the goriness, while infamous enjoyed a "wow"-sensation after its release, where people tried to push other people to buy it (similar in a minor degree to VC). Prototype has been the "like-it-or-not"game (with a lot of impulse buyers), while Infamous was the better game.
