The bolded part indicates that people who have a 360 might have instead pirated the game from PC or bought it on PS3. The sales for the 360 version were hurt because it was a multiplat. Infamous sales(as with most PS3 exclusives) are helped on that single platform, because it isn't available somewhere else. In other words, if Infamous was a multiplat, it wouldn't have sold as much ON THE PS3. If Prototype was an exclusive, it would have sold more ON THE 360. All in all, Prototype sold much better despite less hype, probably less advertising, and certainly lower reviews, no matter what kind of bow you want to put on it. The question is why? Did the PS3 hold it back, or the game itself? Was it marketing? Does it matter? Prototype is now a marketable franchise. |
You missed the point I was trying to make: those two games were not sold in a vacuum so being exclusive or multi might not be the main efect the platform had on those sales. They were quite similar in genre and they released a few weeks apart. Every review and comment did pit them against each other, and while some people might have bought both, they were certainly for the most part directly competing products.
Prototype had competition for 100% of the PS3 owners, but only for those 360 owners who also own a PS3. Thus I expect higher sales on 360 than on PS3 - and I ignore the PC version that I consider equally available for PS3 and 360 owners.
On the other hand inFamous had competition on 100% of the PS3s, and that's it.
Unless the majority of gamers own a PS3 and a 360, the choice between the competing products must have affected sales more than the choice of which platform to buy Prototype for.
