Mario Galaxy is a main series game.

A spin off won't outsell it. I'm sorry.

First of all, I have never heard anyone call a 2D Mario game a spin off.  Why has no one ever said that before?  Because it is not a spin off.

Second, NSMB Wii will outsell Galaxy easily.  I would also guess that Galaxy 2 will sell less than Galaxy.

By what standard?  If anythng Galaxy is a spin-off of the original 2-D Marios.

edit: I find it similtaneously amusing and baffling how quick people are to dismiss NSMBWii.

In Japan this will be a huge hardware seller.

Worldwide less so, still a bit though

It's the gamere snob mentality. Anything old school = spinoff, with the exception of series that couldn't break into 2D. But Mario did, so 2D means it's a spinoff, while the 3D games are the "real" series.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Also, I have to get involved in this 'spin off' conversation

Firstly, to the obvious.

"Mario Galaxy is a main series game.

Mario Kart is certainly a spin off, and yet MK:Wii outsold Galaxy, Double Dash outsold Sunshine

Second, to the subjective.

I fail to see how 2d mario platformers are a spin off

LoL. I love how underestimated this game has become; It reminds me of the whole GTA4 vs MKWii situation a year ago.

This game is such a Queen to the King move, this is chess not checkers. As I get older, I begin seeing things recycled and remodeled and all the things that are able to stand the test of time are considered classics and timeless.

If there was ever a game series that personifies timelessness it is Mario Bros. For many people that is the first game they ever played, but these same folks that grew up with this game are raising children of their own, children who will be mesmorized by the wonderous Mario universe. The funny thing is, we here at VGChartz, we aren't the life blood of gaming, children are, and always will be.

I really am loving the underestimation. The black mamba strikes so fast and subtley that its victims don't even feel the initial bite, and by the time they realize they've been bitten, its too late. Forgive my analogy, just finished watching animal planet.

But my answer is a resounding YES.

Bet between Slimbeast and Arius Dion about Wii sales 2009:

If the Wii sells less than 20 million in 2009 (as defined by VGC sales between week ending 3d Jan 2009 to week ending 4th Jan 2010) Slimebeast wins and get to control Arius Dion's sig for 1 month.

If the Wii sells more than 20 million in 2009 (as defined above) Arius Dion wins and gets to control Slimebeast's sig for 1 month.

Whoa. The FUD against this game is picking up.

The ridiculousness of the idea that it's a port, which was obviously not true as soon as the Koopa Kids showed up in E3 demo videos. Like, the day it was announced.

And calling it a "spin-off"! Wow! Unless you are 8 years old, and just don't know any better... then... Wow!

So I would guess that yes, this is a hardware seller. You don't hear FUD this hilarious from folks who aren't worried.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

I've predicted 22 Million lifetime but I'm starting to think that may be too low for this title.. NSMBWii will be a huge hardware mover.

Most of my points have already been made in this thread but I see it basically taking over from Mario Kart Wii while both Wii Sports Resort and Wii Fit Plus take over from Wii Fit. They will continuously move hardware throughout 2010 and it'll be observable as their sales numbers will seem tied to the sales numbers of the Wii console itself.

atleast 10 million copies i can't believe people are still doubting the wii and mario games
