Forums - Gaming Discussion - Wii Graphics Outdated by 2011!!

For all the people that are saying the Wii graphics will be to far behind to keep up because by then the graphics will be able to used right(in the 360/PS3), and the Wii graphics will still look bad. Here's something I thought of, since people say by then the 360/PS3 could be as cheap as the Wii because the cost of parts are going down, couldn't Nintendo come out with a SuperWii, (lol) and beef up the graphics to 360/PS3 (or get alot closer to them) but keep a low price?

Yes/No ... Hypothetically speaking, Nintendo could produce a HD version of the Wii when they move to the 65nm or 45nm process on their CPU/GPU while still maintaining their small form factor and inexpensive price ... This move would (probably) be simply to improve the resolution of most games because they wouldn't want to break compatibility ... In Q4 2011 I would anticipate Nintendo comming out with a successor to the Wii which will (probably) be dramatically more powerful than the PS3/XBox 360 yet still be sold at a reasonable price ...

If that happen it would be over, excespecially if it came out like a year before them.

I always assumed N6 would be released in 2011/12. It is a cheap console so it doesn't matter as long i can bring over my Virtual Console games

Well, my thinking is pretty simple Q4 2011 will be 5 years from when the Wii was released and the PS3 and XBox 360 will likely still be selling for (roughly) $200. The PS3 and XBox 360 will not be able to hit the (ultra) low $100 price point because certain components (Hard-Drives) do not become all that inexpensive to produce. Now, all systems (regardless on how powerful they are) are likely to be "dogged" for being not that much better than an XBox 360 or PS3 but this is a (massive) advantage for Nintendo; they will be able to demonstrate how much better their new system is over the Wii and it will not be (dramatically) more expensive than the XBox 360 or PS3 meaning people should be comfortable paying for it ... At this point in time only a fool would attempt to make a "Super Computer" that is only $600 ...

The problem is you piss people off if you have a short life cycle, like Xbox which only had a 4 year cycle. By the time the "Super Wii" was to come out Microsoft would likely be working on its next console, or just have one out. Sony is likely to let their console last longer and come in later again. I'd say you could see a PS4 in 2012.

I understand that I would be pissed but, the way Microsoft trys to put out system it forces Nintendo/Sony to work faster.

Not necessarily ... The problem that Microsoft had with the XBox (and Sega had several times) is that the support for the XBox died as soon as the XBox 360 was released. Nintendo has released several systems after 5 years and not had problems with this, the latest example would be that the Nintendo DS was released 5 years after the Gameboy Advance even though the GBA was still selling well ... At the moment I would say that whether the PS3 and XBox 360 attempt 6 (or 7) year lifecycles is dependant on how they're selling in comparison to the Wii in 2009 ... if their power is allowing them to catch up/surpass monthly sales of the Wii I would expect them to wait to build a stronger userbase and launch later; on the other hand if they fall further and further behind the Wii expect them to launch a new system after 4 or 5 years.

Well I think reggie said that Wii would have a life spann of five years before next systems comes out. On that if Nintendo succed to get PS2 support you will find that it will have support for at least one more year.

Buy it and pray to the gods of Sigs: Naznatips!

I believe the Wiis graphics will be ouitdated well before 2011. Once HDTV begins to be the norm which should be around 2009 in the US at least the wii will defenetly be outdated. For me the wii is already outdated, it is yet to have a game that looks as good as God of War 2, and will never have any games that look as good as the worst 360 PS3 games. Once games like killzone, Halo, GT5, Ratchet, Uncharted, and Fable 2 come out the wii will start to be another gamecube. Don't get me wrong I think the wii is awsome and have spent a lot of hours playing wii sports and will spend a lot of time on smash bros and galaxy, but games like FFXIII, Uncharted, GT5, Killzone, Lair, Heveanly Swoard, White Knight Story, The Getaway, 8 Days, Home, Little Big Planet, MGS4, Socom, God of War, Ratchet and Clank, Afrika, Halo 3, Forza 2, Fable 2, and many others will take up the major majority of my time. Motion is fun but due to the limited power of the wii it can only go so far, and once that happens it can only go down hill.
