Even large Japanese companies are hurting. The company behind the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, Square Enix, is rumored to be trimming down its workforce, we hear. Apparently, somewhere between 200 and 300 Square Enix Japan employees will lose their jobs. If true, this could simply be a corporate reorganization after the acquisition of Eidos Interactive, which is schedule to be renamed Square Enix Europe. Taito is also under the Square Enix Japan umbrellas, so these rumored lay-offs could also be Taito-related. Square Enix recently released Dragon Quest IX for the Nintendo DS. The game has sold over 3.7 million copies in Japan. We are following up with Square Enix regarding this lay-off rumor. |
This will most likely be the case. It's pretty common for companies to cut staff after buyouts/mergers to reduce unneeded operating costs.
@soriku
yeah they will but I mean next year
2010 is EMPTY...lol
2010 fiscal year I mean.....that is assuming FF13 releases in the west by march 2010!
I've said this before, and I'll say it again.
If at any given time Square is lacking funds.
Remake FF7 with new graphics, content, and cutscenes.
?????
Profit.

Yeah and FF7 remake.
The workforce in Japan is just way to expensive while it is getting harder to make money outside of Japan.

Unlikely given their recent and upcoming game releases as well as the recent expansion of their business through the buyout of Eidos.

It won't be. FF13 is a Spring release.
