You could also put in a rating system where people can give "kudos" to the people that post intelligently and take away kudos from idiots. That rating would show up under their name in every post so both they and others can see it... I would help to eliminate some of the junk posts and the obvious trolling.  You could even set it up such that a user could self ban by reaching a certain level of negative feedback.  It would hopefully keep people from being blatant trolls...

Also, give the mods the ability to delete or at least "hide" a response. When you get something that is blatant and the user gets banned, it becomes a stain in the thread that needs to go away promptly. You could just have the mods mark them as "hidden" and let you do the actual delete so that someone doesn't go rogue on you, Ioi...

I hate trolls.

pron adds? I've never seen an add for porn here. Lots of apple i-phone stuff. Are you sure you're not visiting a pron site at the same time as this one?

I've seen less porn ads (now like nothing), but VGC had A LOT a few months ago. Now they're gone. And yeah, lots of iPhone stuff.

darn, why didn't I see that porn add?

Actually, there was A LOT. Everywhere you go, there was one. You probably came after they all went away. Some of us were here earlier--much earlier.

lol. j/k. But, i've been here for quite some time, maybe it's firefox that I use had blocked them?

I'am not a regular poster here, but difinitely a regular reader though.

but it gives me an idea @ioi; why don't you put registration date for each member below their avatar? So we could know them better.

That idea is great, but open to the same abuse that the game scores are, such that the idiot posters would be able to anti-kudos other users constantly.

Soriku and leo would have started a Kudos war against each other.

I agree with the kudos system. Or better a rep system.

Getting more and more rep points for good posts.

Just post a quick reply (this is deja vu i swear) in the box at the bottom of the thread

It is since I mention it in every input thread I see.  :-p

My big problem is I have to use the RTFReply when I quote people make a topic.  Other than that-- love the site.

Other websites have a "karma" system similar to the kudos system you guys are talking about.

I am extremely against having that kind of system here. It would just turn into a fanboy war to see who can lower the others' reputation more.

Regarding the rich text editor, it sounds like deja vu because you keep dismissing the problems with it, ioi.  I don't understand why it's so difficult to accept the fact that the editor has some really annoying issues.

I think for sales (like you recently did for the front page) it should also add how much the system did the previous week and add the % if it increased or decreased whatever. Would be really cool.

Plus "moving" avatars would be cool. Not just a pic, but like a GIF in your avatar.

I think GIF/"moving" avatars is a bad idea. It really makes a site look cheap in my opinion. I'd like to have more historical data. It may not be totally possible, but there have been sales numbers sited for certain games through the years. If there is a reliable source, I don't see why it can't be added to the database. I'd also like to be able to see how a user votes on each game. It would discourage some from giving 10's and 0's to a lot of games. And I also think that banned or suspect(inactive, with few posts and lots of game votes) accounts should have their votes removed. It would be cool to see which games we've voted on ourselves. Sometimes I get the gumption to vote for a game, but can't remember if I already have or not. Can we still vote multiple times on a single game?

"I feel like I could take on the whole Empire myself."

Can we have the same editor for news comments as for regular threads?

Edit: The best would be if News was a forum like everything else.

Next week I am going to create an "Analysis" section on the site and develop a suite of data tools - some of which will be moderator only, some only logged-in users and some open to all users. This will basically allow for the extraction and comparison of whatever data you want from the databases and will give mods / writers the tools with which to construct even more great articles and stories and allow users to copy and paste data and findings to other sites.

This could potentially be a very powerful addition to the site, so let me know what kind of things you would like to see. I'm sure some of you spend time copying and pasting the data into excel and using it to create your own graphs etc - what kind of stuff do you want? Marketshare is an obvious one, compare hardware for any specified data range, compare games, yearly increases / decreases, year-on-year changes? Give me some ideas and I'll put them into action - we have all the data here already I just want to give you guys the tools you need to be able to make the comparisons you want to make.

Great, now I want desperately be a mod *lol*

I second all of that. Add community points. Those can be earned by activity, good posts (votes) updates to the game database.  I would also love a "metacritic" feature (game rankings). I would love a bigger (user?) news section (N4G). To keep work of the mods it would be nice if people could contribute on the bigger site without being a mod (e.g. enable reviews for the metacritic feature, writing or approving news for a bigger news section).

i don't want to sound rude or anything (this site is my daily drug when i get up at 6 am to work) but before putting any more analysis tools (which sound nice btw), is there a way to get (back?) the "total" and "compare games" sections in the american data? or is it too much of a hassle? or was it answered somewhere else and i'm just a griever?
