It would be helpful to know what the production run on the FFXIII LE bundle was. It may well have been under 10K units which would make the "sold out" news a lot less impressive.
Clearly they produced numbers under the actual demand, whether that was a case of underestimating consumer interest or deliberate on SCE's part to drive a rush of sales and pre-release enthusiasm.
From a publisher standpoint, now is an excellent time to release a bestselling AAA title with the new price in play as the lower price means lower entry barrier. Numbers of soft sales only have higher potential as the install base continues to increase at a faster rate.
I think PS2 was at about 5 Million when FF X launched.
Which lets face is, isn't too much more than 3.6 Million, and PS3 could actually be at or very close to that number when FF13 releases, give or take a couple 100k.
But Famitsu expect it to top out at 1.5 Million, and do under a Million first week...

Is that lightning edition ever coming to the US? or is this a japan only thing :(
Exactly what is in the bundle anyway, beyond the obvious (a PS3 slim and a copy of FFXIII)?
Bundles have lately been excuses to sell slightly higher storage at a premium with an included copy of a game and I'm wondering what, if anything makes this bundle any more special than say the MGS4 bundle which really wasn't anything more than a new color with a silk screened text logo and a pretty cool box.
