Forums - Nintendo Discussion - IGN editor: No worthwhile Wii games have released since 2007.

"NO, that cant be it. what the hell does people hating on the wii on internet has to do with 3rd party developers not making decent games on wii? You think developers are reading what some forum and blog posters are posting about the wii? Please explain that. Also, PS3 got THE BIGGEST hate any console has ever recived in 2007 and it still got tons of good 3rd party games."

It's more because a lot of developers are from the same pool that these online haters came from, and also because the heads of publishers are thinking that making games for the HD systems is safer than developing for the Wii, because they think the higher costs are less important than the familiarity to the last generation.

well, i still think that developers are not that stupid to be fooled by haters and fanboys

Some, but not quite that way. Some would assume the vocal minority is a representative sample, because it's cheaper than doing proper statistical samples of customers.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Well, it could be argued that some 3rd party developers actually ARE haters and fanboys.

You know where the "Wii is 2 GameCubes duct-taped together!" joke came from?

"The way you manufacture a Wii is you take two GameCubes and duct tape. It's not clear to me that Nintendo gives a shit about gaming as an art form." - Chris Hecker.

That guy was a developer at Maxis when he said it at GDC a couple years ago, and then EA made him apologize, because they make games for the Wii and own Maxis. Maxis just fired a ton of people in August, and he was one of them.

Gabe Newell's always trolling the PS3, and now Apple is trolling Nintendo and Sony, and Sony's trolling back in a corporate flamewar. And you've got David Jaffe bitching about everything on his own blog.

All these hardcore developers wanted to make games for each other, and are now finding out that it isn't profitable anymore with their current business models, so they either need to make casual games or learn how to make money, and they're not good at either. That's why the whole industry is crazy right now, with haters, whiners, and bankruptcies.

There's more good games on each console than just the 'big budget' games with the most marketing and budget behind them.  Heck, look at my sig for a list of some of the good games coming out on the Wii, most before or after the holiday season.  While I'd say its opinion that 360 or PS3 gets one good game a month, that's also because those systems have gotten much better third party support.  But third parties have begun to gain good third party support as well (finally).

Uh....Reviewers and game developers, last time I checked, are making games to sell.  And unless they're simply making games blindly or for their own personal tastes, they're going to make them appeal to the trends of the market.  If people are consistently using popular terms and seeking certain trends in the market, game developers are going to try to create games to sell to those markets.

And relating the bashing of consoles, its not just limited to the 'internet' bashing.  While 'console wars' and catch phrases like the Wii being a 'casual' system started on the internet, it has spread to the normal vernacular of people who don't use forums or browse review sites.  And its pretty telling when even 'accredited' reviewers, both online and Magazine based, start using the terms in their reviews and articles as if its acceptable to call the Wii 'casual' and 'inferior'.

Six upcoming games you should look into:

I would only get a wii for the following games:
RE4 (already have the PS2 version but I'll buy it again)
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Metroid Prime 3 (or MPTrilogy)
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
...
...
...
I think that's it.

I agree 100% with Colin, and I don't know about people who defend the Wii, but I thought the NES, SNES, N64, and Gamecube were the best systems of their generations (GCN only because it got half of the Dreamcast games I loved).

I've played a lot of Wii games, the first year and a half that I had it were among my favorite times ever. When other people were ripping on the Wii and calling it a crappy console compared to the 360 or PS3, I was one of the first people in line with my torch and pitchfork. Sometime after No More Heroes, my entire perception of the Wii changed, and I lost all interest in it.

To be honest, I don't really know what happened, I just bought a PS3 and lost all interest in the "good" games on the Wii. For whatever reason, the majority of Wii games feel like they can't get out of the 8's. Sure, they're good games, but what happens when I want the great games? The Conduit is good, MadWorld is good, Mario Kart Wii is good... but they're never great. I keep waiting for that one Wii game to roll along that gets editors across every site to go totally bonkers, instantly proclaiming it a game for the ages. It hasn't happened yet.

Currently playing: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, NBA2k11, Metal Gear Solid, Picross 3d

"I agree 100% with Colin"

Including the part where he implies the price drop won't help the system?

So what you are saying there in 2nd paragraph is that if internet decides that this game or console is good or bad, the entire world is gonna think so too?

And i am sorry but lots of customers are not interested in rewievs and fourms, they just buy games or consoles THEY think its the best.

No I am not.  I am saying that reviewers and game developers have been using the negative, 'Nintendo is casual crap' mentality that the internet has been pushing since the middle of the GameCubes life cycle.  And it just gets more intense (and more obvious) every year as Nintendo continues to grow more and more dominant in sales.

In other words, outbursts like this are just going to become more prominant as Reviewers have no more material to use against the Wii except 'lol no games' and 'dur Gamecube 2.0'.  Reviewers are finding they have less and less impact this generation, except on people who want to fight over which is better, Halo 3 or Killzone 2
