Forums - Sales - So TOV PS3 OUTSOLD TOV Xbox 360 in 1 week alone!..thoughts?

Since this has done well and SO4 will probably do well when it launches on PS3 soon... is there any chance The Last Remnant will be ported too? Was a shame to see that disappear off the radar.

its a bit meh really, 200k sold these day's is nothing when you think about it. I think what is more interesting is things that sell millions. Like say the new halo game selling more then KZ2 worldwide in it's lifetime in just 24hrs, think that is more impressive.
This gen has a lack of decent JRPG but TOV is one of the better ones.

I don't give a dog crap about how Halo sold more than KZ2. All I care about is, if the game (in case it's good) have sold enough, to have a sequel. There are sales Juggernauts such as GTA, Halo, CoD which is fine, everyone will try those games, because they are well known, especially mouth-to-ear marketing from your mates. But that doesn't automaticaly make them the best, ya know? For some developer 200k can be a great result (see The Conduit, they were happy with selling just little over 120k). And when Tales of Vesperia sold more on PS3 than Xbox, we can expect more JRPGs on the PS3 than it was till now. And that is a good thing for me, as a PS3 owner.

But it can also go the other way.

Selling little or more does not make the game better or worse.

However lets be honest there are a lot more rubbish game that we call shovleware which have flooded the games market. Some of these games will sell more then 200k (looking at you Wii) and that will spawn a whole load of sequels. Which again majority of the time end up being crap.

So as i said before, 200k is not that much these days but for a JRPG it is not so bad, if we used last weeks numbers it would sit 5th. Again making the feat look even more impressive. But say if we used i dunno say 20th dec week it would just make it into the top 25. Obviously not so good.

As a game owner i would much rather to see sequels based on merit of how good the game is then actual sales. But sadly we both know it doesn't work that way.

That's a bizzare comparison. The 20th of December is right in the heart of the holiday season. Of course it's not going to look as good when pited against games selling like hotcakes during the busiest time of the year for the industry.

But Tales sold 390k copies

They're talking about Japan.

170k is the 360 versions lifetime sales in Japan. The PS3 version sold 217k first week.

I'm fairly impressed.  I was hoping for 250,000, but a lot of people didn't even think it would hit 200,000 so I suppose it did just fine.

yes I agree, with SO4 on PS3 too now, it is really THE platform for HD JRPG's

Agreed...and SO4 was actually a really fun game.  I'll buy it again once it's released on the ps3.  The only decent JRPG that is missing from the ps3 lineup is Lost Odyssey, but that will be made up by all the exclusives that have been announced lately--especially WKC.

god localization its almost confirmed.

im confused which i often am but i have to think microsoft is not happy that ports are outselling what was initially offered as an exclusive...i wish everyone would quit playing the install base card sometimes it comes down to a simple thing like public perception....even though the 360 has an excellent jrpg lineup the general public thinks of it as a fps console...i myself am guilty of this i love jrpg but i dont own a a 360 why because i perceived the ps3 would be the place for jrpg doesnt make it true but it was the way i felt...if FF13 doesnt sell as well on the 360 as the ps3{and its not going to} can we lay to rest defending poor jrpg sales on the the 360 and just to be fair poor fps sales on the ps3
shooters sell better on the 360/jrpg sell better on the ps3 this has been and will continue to be true

Wow I recall a lot of people predicting this selling only a little bit better than ES hell some were saying it would sell worse....Yeah I'm just going to say this. The game should have been a PS3 exclusive or Multiplat from Day 1. It would have sold much better. I also expect this to spike up into the top 10 during a week in Oct due to the ToV movie releasing that month.

Im also going to say that FFXIII will sell better on the PS3 in Europe and North America. Yeah I said it Quote Me On It Bitches!!!!

Unless the 360 version of FFXIII is vastly inferior to the PS3's, that isn't happening.

The NA is 360's region. Hell, I think the 360 may be able to take the west overall.

As for the topic, not much of a surprise. Userbase.

Just because every WRPG and shooter sold better on the 360 doesn't mean a JRPG will, remember, this is the 1st time a JRPG is released in equal conditions on both platforms in the West (And imagine that, it's FF, a franchise that rised on the PS in the west)... And remember, the game comes out 2010, userbases will be different, who knows how much the PS3 will be near 360 in NA, and it probably will outsell the 360 in Europe, like it did in 2008 before the 360 price cut...

I'm not sure about NA, but if FFXIII does better on 360 then it won't be by much, and it definetly will go PS3 in EU... So my prediction is the West also will go PS3 with this game...

This. Also C0rd if your so confident why don't you make a bet with me? FFXIII will sell more in the West in Both NA and EU within 3 months of release. Winner gets control of loser's Sig and Avatar for one week?

"In video game terms, RPGs are games that involve a form of separate battles taking place with a specialized battle system and the use of a system that increases your power through a form of points.

Sure, what you say is the definition, but the connotation of RPGs is what they are in video games." - dtewi
