Forums - Sales Discussion - European Users: How well is PS3 selling in Europe?

PS3 sales in March and April in Europe are critical to the console war. If any of you can keep tabs in the various major markets (England, Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Scandanavia, Others) I would appreciate it greatly. I would also invite anyone in the other PAL regions of this launch (like Africa, Australia and the Middle East) to contribute.. I'm not looking for sales figures, just local reports. ioi, you seem to have sales contacts, what are you seeing in your area?

This is going to be really interesting - possibly even critical to this generation. I have been assuming that Europe will "close to" sell out - or at least sell 700-800k units in the next week or so. This is what Sony needs to do to pretty much "survive". But... if somehow this doesn't happen - and they sell... say 250k - what does this do? You might see big publishers rethinking their strategy already - or just delaying PS3 titles for another 6-12 months until the sales build (i.e. like what happened with the PSP). It means that instead of being 3mill vrs 10mill (to the 360), its closer to 2.5mill / 10mill. Makes the chance of catching up all the less likely. It also hurts BluRay (although it will no doubt get a boost from the launch in general). We'll find out in about a week...

Well Scandinavia is getting a late push, with free games and BR movies, the price has gone down to. Some stores is also giving away PS3 for free when you buy a full HD set. So I guess we will se somewhat good sales, but preorder hystery is quit low. If we can belive the fan boys, the PS3 hysteri is quit low in Great britan to: http://www.ukresistance.co.uk

To be fair, reports seem to peg the European allotment between 1 and 1.2 million... Anything over a 60% sell-through in the first week would be great with those kinds of numbers... It is kind of funny though... Some of the reports in the last couple weeks of "PS3 pre-orders already sold-out" were literally about retailler orders.

i read today in my favorite newspaper that in my country (austria) there are not all pre-orders sold out. it is quite funny - because we got a really small delivery from only 10.000 pieces.... EDIT: i will go on saturday to some shops and will look if the sales are really that bad ...
