Forums - Sales - S-E: NEW Wii in 2011, motion 'impact' for PS360 = SMALL!

I'm still not understanding the reason why the fastest selling console ever would get a successor earlier than the HD consoles which are sellling at a slower rate.

Because in two years, they would have sold 100 million Wii consoles, and there won't be anyone left to sell to.

Also, it should be easier to keep the momentum going when people are still really interested in the Wii.

@soriku

I'm BAFFLED by that too

lol!

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

Wii is going to get games for far longer than the NES, Game Boy, SNES, PS1, PS2, or even the DreamCast, which still somehow gets games. With its cheaper devcosts, its universal-family-casual-friendly interface and style, and its ridiculously huge and growing game library, it will sell FOREVER. When it gets cheap enough, I'll just start buying them for my friends and family as Christmas and birthday presents. It's a party in a box, but without a bunch of pieces to lose. You can exercise sing, dance, play guitar, play sports, play tons of classic games from the 80s and 90s and any GC or Wii game. And Mario Galaxy. And soon, 4 player co-op 2-D Mario HEAVEN. I would've stolen the demo disc at E3 if I wasn't afraid of the Nintendo Police.

Well, why would anyone think Sony's or MS's motion controllers are going to be significant?

It's called fanboy logic.

This. And, yes, it looks like S-E is finally jumping ship from Sony to Nintendo. Can't really say I blame them.

I wouldn't say that either. I mean, they've still got tons of HD games on the ways that are not going to the Wii.

@Soriku

Slight exaggeration on my part, and I didn’t expect anyone to take it seriously. But with sales already declining, Nintendo will be forced to keep lowering the price to maintain market share. In two years it will probably be selling for $150, and it just won’t be making enough money to make Nintendo shareholders happy. Therefore I think they will introduce a new console, most likely priced at $250 again, to keep the momentum going.

You said it will go on “just like the PS2”. Well, just like the PS2, if Sony can support it and the PS3, why cannot Nintendo support the Wii and the Wii HD?

Also, I think the gaming market is somewhat split right now between HD gaming and casual gaming. I think that PS2 really captured both markets, which is why it was so successful. And although I agree that the Wii has expanded the casual market, I don’t think it will be as successful as the PS2.

And no, I don't have a crystal ball and I cannot see the future, but if I had to guess, that's what I think is going to happen. It is entirely possible that Nintendo will release some totally amazing game or peripheral and go on to sell another 100 million units, and make me eat my words.

Honestly with the amount of money Nintendo is making they could support the Wii for a ten year life cycle.

Its not a stab at Sony, its actually possible considering Nintendo themselves admitted they're spending money on research and development. Bottom line will be if a new system would increase development costs ten fold and not make them money back day one Nintendo of today wont even give the new system a second look over.

Let alone make a HD one when two giant corporations and a few unfortunate third partys showed its simply not profitable or financially safe.

Didn't Wada also say the PS3 Slim/ price cut would have a minimal impact on sales?

Seriously...what's up with SE lately?

He was talking about SE games in 2009. Not the PS3 itself.

Gotcha. Although he's still wrong, since slim will be bundled with FF XIII.
