Your description of the game was good and did indeed describe a good, core game. Kudos for that.

The video on the other hand... reminded me why i never want to touch the game.

If this game is classed as core, then Point Blank is the most hardcore game i have ever played. Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort are more "core" than LCT.

That is all i have to say on this. Its 20 to 3 in the morning... im grumpy, and im going to bed.

Core is not an indicator of quality, nor is quality determinant as to coreness.

I would like an explanation as to how it is not core, whenever you have the time.

While you guys are arguing about "core" Nintendo games, other great games like Muramasa and Little King's Story are waiting to be bought.

Look at that face! For shame!

@makingmusic: Thanks for making that list. I wanted him to see it for himself before I had to make it, but you saved me the trouble :P

Even considering that you left some other games that could be considered as core, on top of the ones you gave as examples.

I bought Little King's Story!  Best third party game on the system!

But I'll be honest, I'm a Nintendo fanboy.  I buy Nintendo's consoles for Nintendo's games, and usually ignore everything else.

Yeah, im still here... for some reason. Over 1 1/2 hours later.

I take it by "core" we are talking about a game that appeals to the main Nintendo fanbase from previous generations? The core fanbase? Well, my favourite Nintendo franchise is and always has been Zelda, so when Ninty released this, they were trying to appeal to me? Yes? One of the "core" Nintendo/Zelda fanbase.

Well, IMO it is not a core game because it is not appealing to me at all. I shall tell you why i dont find it appealing.

This game is more-or-less Wii Play for the Zapper... Basicly a free game bundled with the Zapper to show off what it can do. The game can be beaten in an hour. Under an hour infact. It has very minimal replay value and a small amount of Multiplayer. It seems to be a half-assed attempt to try cash in on the Zelda/Link name to move some of the Zappers.

Just because it centers around the Zelda universe, doesn't make it a core game. Just because it is a shooter, doesn't make it a core game.

A core game has to appeal to that franchise's/genre's fans for it to be classed as a core game. This game, in no way shape or form... appeals to me at all. And i love Zelda, and i love shooters. For me, this is 100% NOT a core game.

Once again this is IMO. I know how some people here are really defensive with anything negative about Nintendo...

Feel free to try change my mind about it, i wont be arrogant and i will listen to what you have to say. Who knows, maybe we just have a different perspective on what a "core game" is.

Why are y'all ignoring the GameCube? I swear, the GameCube is the most underrated console ever.

List of "core" Nintendo games on the GameCube in the first three years (published - I'm too lazy to look up developers):

Luigi's Mansion (excite truck)
Pikmin (Twilight Princess)
Super Smash Bros. Melee (Brawl)
Wave Race (Punch Out)
Eternal Darkness (Batallion Wars 2)
Metroid Prime (Metroid Prime 3)
Star Fox Adventures (Super Mario Galaxy)
Super Mario Sunshine (Sin and Punishment 2)
Doshin the Giant (Japan/Europe only) (Another Code: R)
1080 Avalanche (Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat)
F-Zero GX (New Super Mario Bros)
Kirby's Air Ride (excitebots)
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (plus Master Quest, etc.) (Fatal Frame 4)
Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour (Mario Strikers)
Mario Kart: Double Dash!! (Mario Kart Wii)
Wario World (Wario Land Shake it)
Donkey Konga (Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn)
The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords (Super Paper Mario)
Mario Power Tennis (Mario Super Sluggers)
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (Metroid Prime Trilogy)

Pokemon Colosseum (Poke'mon Battle Revolution)

Yes, ALL of those games were released before the end of 2004, and I even left out a few like Mario Party, WarioWare, and Animal Crossing. Nintendo has only grown each generation, and that's why their N64 titles outpaced their SNES titles, as shown above, and why their GC titles outpaced their N64 titles.

That's my main issue with Nintendo this gen. Despite being larger (and richer) than ever, their release list is smaller than ever. I mean, seriously, only Punch Out, Wii Sports Resort, and New Super Mario Bros. Wii for this whole year? Are you kidding me?

Look at the GameCube. By this point in its life, we had seen a new Paper Mario, Super Mario, Smash Bros., Mario Kart, etc., PLUS new IPs like Pikmin, reinventions of old favorites like Metroid Prime, and new iterations of franchises like F-Zero, Mario Golf, Mario Tennis, and WaveRace. We've gotten half of that on Wii.

Why haven't we gotten more WaveRace, Mario Tennis, or Mario Golf? Those franchises would be PERFECT for the Wiimote, but instead we get tech demos like Wii Sports Resort. They're demos of what *could* be in something like WaveRace. Why not give us WaveRace?

The only game there not yet released is New Super Mario Bros, but I think we can all agree since it's releasing so soon, it should count.

Other games I didn't mention:

The NPC games

Endless Ocean

Warioware, mario party, and animal crossing just liek you did

link's crossbow training

Mario and Sonic (well i guess that was published only in japan)

Wii isn't as bad as people make it out to be.

Core is a statement of values, not necessarily appeal - and it's still sold more than the majority of the best-selling games on the 360 and the PS3. It is a wildly popular game, if thati s how you define "core" - it appeals to people who like shooter,s or like Zelda, or both. We can't take "core" as being subjective. if we do, then th argument is pointless, because you can't support the idea that I'm wrong for listing it as a core title.

Its scope is comparable ot Starfox 64, and its replayability is similar (it is about earning points and medals andi mproving one's skills). Would you argue that Starfox 64, therefore, is not a core game?

Reaching, eh?  You counted a rerelease, listed three games that haven't (and will probably never) leave Japan (Capt. Rainbow, Fatal Frame IV, Tact of Magic... whatever the hell that is), a shooting game that could've easily just been a mini-game in Twilight Princess, and a compilation with another company that should if anything be lumped together with the Wii series.

And the Wii isn't bad by any means.  I love the console. It's just not as good as I had hoped, especially given the fact that Nintendo is literally rolling in cash at the moment.

And what the heck is Doshin the Giant? Fatal Frame 4 I thought has a confirmed release in NA. What shooting game? Link's crossbow training? I didn't include it. Captain rainbow is under the "did not mention" list as well.

I will give you takt of magic, all the others are perfectly legitimate.

Doshin the Giant is a wacky ass game for the GC that sadly never made its way stateside (like Disaster: Day of Crisis):

Basically, you're a giant hanging out in the ocean messing with islands and stuff. It's kinda hard to describe. You have to play it.
