Forums - Nintendo - Game Informer - Dead Space: Extraction review

GI tends to make some of the lowest review scores for Wii games. I wouldnt be suprised if DSE gets an ~80 score.

By the way, I think it's quite possible this game fails, given that the on-rails genre is already well represented on the Wii.

Unless this gets great reviews and lots of marketing, I don't see why a big number of Wii users would be drawn in.

Looks like Game Informer had to do a bad review in order to offset their good review. We know how much they love the Wii.

That being said, I think that there are plenty of light gun shooters on the Wii and it will take a lot for a new one to stand out from the others. Hopefully, this is that kind of game.
I agree with both of you on this. I've been wondering since the game was announced why they decided to go into the crowded on-rails Wii market when the third-person-shooter Wii genre is basically empty. Sounds to me like an uncreative, extremely risk adverse publisher has hurt this game's potential.

Why do you think they made that decision was made right when it was announced, and not months before, when the Wii wasn't loaded with those already?

Really, that should have been obvious. They didn't just whip this up overnight between the decision and the announcement.

I seem to never agree with GI though on their ninty reviews.

They don't seem to even agree with themselves.

The spread for PS3 and Xbox 360 games was never more than half a point.

The spread for Wii games sometimes approached 2 points.

That shows that there are those who have very differing opinions about the little white box.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

They didn't know that the Wii was void of third-person shooters back then?  And yes the Wii was already loaded with those months before the announcement.

Was already loaded? I wouldn't call three games (RE: UC, Ghost Squad, House of the Dead 2 & 3) loaded. It was not crowed when they made the decision. So don't act like they were entering it after it was crowded. Note that since Darkside Chronicles and this game were announced, there have been almost no major rail shooters on the Wii announced. That's because they now know it's crowded.

The question is, which one will be counted on MetaCritic?  I'm guessing the lower one.

I got my 360 fixed last week, within 3 days I had beaten dead space with most achievements unlocked. Loved it aside form the asteroid shooting.

not worried about this not being scary, as dead space didnt really have scary moments, but a scary atmosphere that kept me on edge. hopefully they maintain that.

i hate on rails generally to be honest, but i liked dead space enough, that this being a different story, i will get it pretty soon i wager.

Last year's game of the year turned out to be Silent Hill : Shattered Memories (online GOTY was COD 6).  This year's GOTY leader to me is Heavy Rain.

There was an interview a while ago on gamesindustry.biz where they explained their reasoning. They have a hypothesis that the people open to these games on Wii usually have one of the two other consoles, and they choose to play traditional games on those consoles. Thus this was made as 'something that can't be done on a HD console', and rail shooters don't work too well with gamepads.

Personally, I don't think cross ownership is as high as they believe, and there's also the possibility that those gamers aren't looking for 'something that can't be done on HD consoles', but instead are looking for traditional kinds of games with awesome controls.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

www.xnagg.com/zombieasteroids/publish.htm

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Oh man it's like the final opinion of both reviewers are two different things, scores aside you'd think the main reviewer gave it a 5 and the other guy a 9 based on what was said. And this is my one issue with the idea of having "another take" cause if one guy trashes it for reasons in the review and the second opinion loved it, how is that supposed to help you decide on getting a game?

Oh yeah for reasons A, B, and C this game isn't great *second opinion* I loved every minute! Two different views and honestly the reader loses here.
