@PullusPardus
Wow dude! That was fast reading. That had to be a minimum of 961 words per minute.

Sheer business incompetence. This isn’t going to increase Wii sales longterm. Wii sales were already going back up and steady due to Wii Sports Resort. |
ORLY?
First week of August: 340k
week after: 255k (-25%)
next week: 240k (-6%)
next week: 200k (-16%)
next week: 195k (-3%)
most recently: 180k (-7%)
It's doing worse now than it was before Resort.

Well if Malstrom knows so much for what Nintendo has to do in business, Or how to make a better Mario game, why doesn't he work for the company?
He decided he rather be a blogger than join Nintendo with his knowledge and make them even MORE MONEY? What a dick.
Malstrom, a guy who I would gauruntee probably can't even earn a $80,000 per year paycheque is going to tell Mr. Iwata how to run his business.
Just because you read a book on Blue Ocean business strategy doesn't make you a business genius, lol. This guy probably couldn't even manage a lemonade stand. Nintendo is not in this to prove some Blue Ocean/Red Ocean business dogma.
although iwata talked a lot about blue ocean, he also talked about how staying on one course just because your in first and ignoring market conditions is extremely foolish. Iwata is not going to lose money just to save face. as i was saying a few days ok, iwata will drop the price when he calculates that nintendo will make more money from increased software, hardware and accesories than it will lose from decresed revenue per unit. clearly that point has been reached. that ans this is just the right time for uber momentum gaining
nintendo fanboy, but the good kind
proud soldier of nintopia
We'll see how it goes, though I have some of the some reservations he does.
I'm not ready to call it business stupidity, however.
Who even knows how these things work ... just because Nintendo is dropping the price doesn't mean they themselves are selling for $50 less.
They very easily could have gone to their parts suppliers and said "look we'll order X more amount of parts if you cut our price by Y for the next three years" and gotten a greenlight. How many part suppliers do you think are willing to lose a slam dunk supplier like Nintendo in these economic uncertain times? Probably not too many; Nintendo has a lot of leverage.
Wii Fit Plus being a $10 mark up from the previous Wii Fit also can help offset the Wii hardware itself being cheaper. Not to mention gawd only knows what their profit margin now is on the nunchaku + Wiimote + Wii Motion Plus accessories. I imagine it's a pretty large chunk of change.
But no lets listen to some dweeb on his computer who probably can't even pull a salary that would get him a pigeon coup in Rodeo Drive tell Mr. Iwata, who is hands down the most successful executive in this business for the last decade how he should run his business.
I'm also not ready to call this a Red Ocean move, actually, because it may not be in response to other price cuts, simply their own flagging sales.
Can you guys seriously knock off the Red Ocean/Blue Ocean bullsh-t. Just because you understand one meager theory doesn't give you insight into a multi-billion dollar corporation like Nintendo or what their financial goals are or what their arrangements with part suppliers are ... there are a million things you guys likely are not aware of.
Nintendo doesn't give a sh-t about Blue Ocean/Red Ocean when it doesn't serve their purposes. Simple as that.
Clearly things like market share, stock price, quarterly and yearly sales projects, and brand momentuem also matter to them. Not just proving some business theory out of a text book.
