Who even knows how these things work ... just because Nintendo is dropping the price doesn't mean they themselves are selling for $50 less.
They very easily could have gone to their parts suppliers and said "look we'll order X more amount of parts if you cut our price by Y for the next three years" and gotten a greenlight. How many part suppliers do you think are willing to lose a slam dunk supplier like Nintendo in these economic uncertain times? Probably not too many; Nintendo has a lot of leverage.
Wii Fit Plus being a $10 mark up from the previous Wii Fit also can help offset the Wii hardware itself being cheaper. Not to mention gawd only knows what their profit margin now is on the nunchaku + Wiimote + Wii Motion Plus accessories. I imagine it's a pretty large chunk of change.
But no lets listen to some dweeb on his computer who probably can't even pull a salary that would get him a pigeon coup in Rodeo Drive tell Mr. Iwata, who is hands down the most successful executive in this business for the last decade how he should run his business.
