Forums - Nintendo - More Wii price cut evidence

I don't know if Nintendo wants to play the Bundle game now, though. But they seem to be derailing their previously prevailing strategy with the cut itself, so anything is possible.

Actually a bundle would not be a game, it would be very intelligent of them, Wii Sports is obsolete, Resort has the good stuff of sports, and much more, so there is little point to having it as part of the bundle anymore, possibly bundling it with a controller like Wii Play might work, but that is a different issue, if given the choice Wii Sports resort would be my choice over Wii Sports, by shifting out Wii Sports for NSMB Wii, they increase the value of the Wii, since NSMB is of greater value than Wii Sports at this point, not only that, NSMB is more upstreaming than Wii Sports.

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

I think a new bundle is looking more likely now and it would seem that it's too early for NSMB Wii. Nintendo may not in fact be reducing the price but just encouraging retailers to clear stock to make way for the new bundle/s. I think WSR (+/- WM+) makes the most sense as we are still a little too far out from the release of NSMBW but i wouldn't rule out multiple bundles before Christmas.

I could see maybe something like

$199.99 w/Wii Sports

$279.99 w/Wii Sports + New Super Mario Bros. Wii + extra controller (available in white or black)

But the $199.99 base pack w/Wii Sports is going to stay. No way Nintendo takes that out of the box, because too many people associate that with the Wii and would probably freak out if they bought the system, got it home, and found out that Wii Sports wasn't in there (and yes, people are that stupid).

The thing is though I don't think Nintendo likes to bundle too many games at once because it may discourage people from buying other software.

Where Nintendo is probably making a killing right now is accessorie sales ... every Wii purchase right now means a Wiimote or Wii Play purchase + a nunchaku purchase .... which is likely a huge profit margin at $60 between those two. So they may not want to bundle controllers either.

Consumers are impulsive creatures ... they go into a Best Buy not wanting to spend too much, but see the Wii at a new low price of $199.99 ... so they grab that ... but now you need that extra controller ... grab that .... oh NEW SUPER MARIO BROS. WII .... gotta have that .... by the end of the hour they're putting down $500 on their credit card.

That's what Nintendo wants ... very rarely do people just buy the system alone, and Nintendo is probably leaning more on fat profits from things like the $20 nunchaku (probably costs them like $2 to make) and $10 more for Wii Fit Plus to offset the $50 price cut.

I don't think Wii Sports is going to stay, just because resort is better, and I don't see Resort being bundled because they don't want to go above $249.99 for a bundle, so they make more profit keeping it separately.

I think Wii sports bundle has outlived its usefulness, so now its just the final charge before they replace it.

After this third retailer printing ads for a $199.99 Wii... I have to concede. Too much evidence. I really wanted to see how a full priced Wii would perform with no shortages during a holiday season, and thus, am a bit disappointed.

But hey, will be a nice Xmas for the Wii!

You still might, if they release a new bundle

It's entirely possible they are all photoshop fakes... If you make one fake, might as well make 3.

Personally I am not surprised, although I would of expected colors to go GA first (or at least black). My thought, is they decided they want to go for 50% market share by end of the year and decided they wouldn't get there with just colors.

Who says black isn't coming?

The black controller has a cryptic non-release date for North America. I have a feeling that's because they don't want to announce yet that the black Wii is coming the same day as the black controller.

I think you'll see the black Wii + $199.99 this fall in North America. And yes I know Nintendo said they have no plans for the black Wii in NA, but they said the same thing about the price.

Perhaps it would do well, but I still say it was not the other consoled that would cause this. It would simply be the mainstream finally thinking the price was just a little too high.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Wii Sports is now inferior to Resort. It may no longer be valued at $250. The smart move is to put resot in the package for $250, as it would be reasonably priced then. I'm not sold this is the best move. But, I'm not well versed on Blue Ocean, expecially in the subject of price.
