Forums - Sales Discussion - Look at those Legs Game of the Day (9/14) - Resistance: Fall of Man

Both Lack of Competition and bundles.

For the first year of PS3, Resistance was pretty much it.

Well, the bundles were only in Europe, and they were for a short time.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Ah Resistance, what a wonderful game. I'd say it's the best FPS I've played this gen, quite easily.

KZ2 may have the graphics but for pure fun factor, nothing beats R:FoM.

Agreed, I don't understand the R:FoM hate.

I don't hate it, I just don't think it's anything special.

The only things that made it stand out initially were:

  1. It was a hyped exclusive
  2. There wasn't much else on the system at the time

Beyond that it was an incredibly generic game.  Don't get me wrong, it was a nice throwback to classic shooters, but had it been released today it would have been lost amongst the much better games.

its one of the  best fps shooters. it all modes.

if u don't like probably u don't like FPS either, but see it as this, some people treat fps like a sport,

well probably u don't like many sports either, as competition  wise Resistance got its base covered.

i do think it have average story, but  also 99% of FPS, and that because i heard good things about bioshock.

I use to hate FPS games until 2005 until I was literally forced to play them and now I like them actually.  Since then I've played most of the classics and play most new ones.

I can say with some confindence that Resistance: Fall of Man is nothing special.  It was the best thing on the PS3 when it was new but that really isn't saying much.

Two reasons in my view, bundles, and lack of competition plus the distinction of being one of first FPS on console with online to use your shiny new PSN ID with.

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

The way in which FPS's are being developed this generation, I would say the RFOM is one of the few non-generic throwback titles available. Resistance 2 really made me appreciate how special RFOM really is. I am tired of the COD 2 weapon system with regenerative health that every modern gen FPS uses.

I really enjoy the Resistance series. I can't wait to see how it ends.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

It seems like the "bundles" option is by far the most popular choice with 45% of the vote so far. Can anyone confirm/deny what outlawauron said, that the bundles were restricted to Europe and only for a limited time? I thought I remembered the game being more heavily bundled then that.

Same as I voted for MGS4- lack of competition. But RFOM to a greater extent because it literally launched when the PS3 had NOTHING else worthwhile (it was the only good launch title).

Definitely falls under lack of competition on the console. Don't get me wrong, great game, even compared to newer ones like Halo 3...but definately it was the only game worth buying for the first year on the PS3. Well that and Oblivion.
