I usually try to keep my posts fair and whatnot, but if someone is blatantly wrong, I may feel compelled to correct them. I tend to not care about someone's post count unless they have like 50 posts and are already one of the biggest trolls I've ever seen. Then they irritate me. But I don't see too many people like that on here. Basically, I ignore post count when it comes to calling people out for their opinion (which I do very rarely).

So there should be "blame" placed on the newer people, because you are entering into a new scene and you should be mindful of what you say (it's the polite thing to do). I know it's not their fault that of that 100 or so people that join up every week (hypothetically) 90% of them are trolls (hypothetically) and they have to suffer because of that. But at some point we all went through the same thing. |
Agreed. I get the feeling that those types of people (myself included for a long while) lurked the forums but didnt feel the need to post until something they felt needed to be said. hence the create-account. I know i personally didnt join up until Brawl was released, in which case i needed some online buddies to play with, before then i would simply enjoy lurking the forums....and still do most of the time.

Thats about right - how many people can honestly go into a rol thread and not expect shits&giggles.

um..stuff
500 posts isn't bad.
400 even isn't bad. Hell, I can deal with 300.
But every member of this site with 200 or fewer posts is too new and 80% of them act like biased fanboys. The majority of them showed up when the PS3 slim was announced and just post 'PS3 ftw! PS3 secures 2nd! PS3 will overtake 360 in 2 months! PS3 made me breakfast!'
They're all annoying. Even if it's only 80% of them, the 20% just have to deal with the bias cuz I'm gonna be biased. 99 times out of 100, I don't even read their posts if it's less than 300.
I never look at post count - to me everyone is equal because they're simply a small avatar image and their views.
I guess a simple way to fix this would be to remove the post count from display in forums - if you care that much check the poster's profile.
Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
Surely not everyone discriminates people with low post count?
I LOVE ICELAND!

Too many new members sign up to start shit either in news stories or forum threads. Yes, there are 1000+ post members who are worse, but it's hard to give new members the benefit of the doubt when it's so easy to get an account and so hard to lose. Internet forums truly attact all kinds with gaming forums inparticular being ripe with system warriors, trolls, and viral marketers. There are some good new members though, there's no denying that. To those good ones I say -- get an avatar, be reasonable, and speak in complete sentences. Otherwise, don't be suprised if I ignore you entirely.

If someone discriminates against someone with a low post count without a good reason, then that only hurts the reputation of that member. There are some good posters and some bad posters on this site. I stay for the good ones and ignore the poor ones.
My anecdotal experience would be the accidental forum rule breaking in my Case it was a quip with regards to how the Wii was named piss who would of thought that would catch on or something to that effect (I still find it hard to believe a system could be named Wii even today, it must be the kid in me). I never realised this would be taken wrongly which it was. I think that post may of been part cultural and part forum newbie. This was only a minor infraction and resulted in a warning. Also bizzare really as I rarely post anything on the Wii.
The other thing I noticed is when you are a newbie and say something it gets ignored somebody else says the same thing and it does not, you feel less valued. Of course this is natural as opinion is still mostly unknown. That would probably be the single most obvious example to me of a newbie. I would not say that I have been abused. I like most people here have a leaning to one system over another but that is not unusual and is the basis for most discussion posts and I try to balance my response and think from the others perspective it sometime helps but not always.
The most obvious and I am loathe to call it a problem I see with the forum is that PS3 owners seem to outnumber all other forum members combined. This often leads to the 360 post being overwhelmed with trollish like posts. I say loathe because this is possibly entirely a perspective thing and a PS3 owner may well say the same thing about the 360 owners.
