ModNation Racers aims to avoid LBP's moderation fiasco
Posted on September 12, 2009 by Nick

Last year, LittleBigPlanet oversaw the formation of the new 'Play, Create, Share' genre, which was not only encouraged, but driven by unique, player generated content.  Of course, when Media Molecule began rather injudiciously deleting and moderating the works of users',  the LittleBigPlanet community was incited to protest, causing quite a backlash at the game.

United Front Games, creators of the upcoming karting title ModNation Racers, have dully noted the controversy and aim to avoid any similar fiascoes with their entry into the 'Play, Create, Share' genre.  When we quizzed them on their moderation plans for ModNation Racers, they responded they would be putting the "power of moderation into the hands of the community".

"We really want to put the power of moderation into the hands of the community," ModNation Producer Dan Sochan old us in a recent interview. "A lot of time has been spent creating tools that allow the gamer to help maintain a fun and vibrant online community that’s enjoyable for everyone."

Stay tuned for the full interview, where we hit subjects such as new game modes, split screen multiplayer, making use of PS3 specific features, and leveraging the 'power of the PS3'.

VERY good news, I never made levels due to the moderation fiasco, as all my levels contained heavily copyrighted idea's usually involving things starting with, STAR, WARS, DART, FINAL, FANTASY, TURISMO & so on

Well there are less opportunities for profanity in this IMO, so I think we won't need to worry.

Wait for the camera to zoom out to show the full track you're racing on.

@illegal paladin

I never thought about that

They can do whatever they want as long as they have 4 player split screen.

i also thought of that, but its not like any kid would get it since there are actual real tracks that look like that (lol)

Question - does Media Molecule steal delete LBP levels for "copyright" reasons?

Isn't more Sony moderators than Media Molecule who were vaporizing LBP levels?

In any case, McDonaldsGuy, I believe that they've changed the moderation a little bit. You ought to be told what the problem was with your level and you'll get a chance to fix said problem.

"Update 1.06 actually hit while we were in the middle of recording a very special LittleBigPlanet podcast, which was fun. It added some new features to level moderation, including the ability for unpublished levels to be edited by their creators rather than disappearing forever, and actual explanations for creators who've had their creations removed from circulation. Now they'll not only know what they did wrong, but they'll also be able to fix it! What a brilliant idea!"
