the war is over : sony win !!!! ;)

On top of what? It's been on the top for me since it launched, and it's still on top since it's tracking better than what the 360 did at the same time in its lifetime and that's what any fanboy needs to look at when comparing success, and also stop the ridiculous argument that goes "oh oh, but Sony was an Empire and now they're 3rd, so Sony already lost no matter what and M$ won no matter what", 'cause that's just major bullshit. The PS brand is stronger as ever with currently 3 systems on the market, so most people are playing a Sony console one way or the other, and it'll stay on top of their preferences for next-generation too. A 22 year old gamer grew up gaming on a PlayStation, not all of them of course, but it's a fact the PlayStation brand is to this people what Nintendo was for older gamers.

Yes, but only in my house where the PS3 is upstairs and the 360 and Wii are downstairs.

The DS is on my bed by elevation wise that is lower than the PS3.

I honestly don't think that PS3 will surpass the 360s sales
And neither will surpass the Wii.

Because it's very important.

^^That is going to be the deciding facctor in the console war, now all them PS2 owners that still love their ps2's will decide who in the end wins, because like you said at least 80 million of them are still interested in the ps2, when it comes to upgrade i hope they chose ps3 because it is the best value for your money, and it does everything

Once again, people forget the DS. A LOT of PS2 owners went DS only.

In fact, I think we saw a change in gaming habits from one generation to another.

The handheld overtook the habitual spectrum. The common sense view of the market is only starting to catch on to that, consoles getting most of the attention of the media has mostly to do with the amount of competition, as well as the historical significance. But the reality is handhelds won people over, and are still doing so.

Most people are not looking for a certain level of visual quality, or audio quality. They never have. So different experiences, in a living room context, is the main valuable thing that will not be replicated or bettered in handheld form. We're gonna see a lot of duplicated ownership as a result of the slim PS3, so you can expect good sales for a while, but ultimately handhelds are winning people over and that's the bottom line.

For fore seeing this problem with new consoles, there's no question in my mind that the Wii will win in the home console realm in the end, despite all of the efforts from certain people to change that. But the DS is also a significant win from the last few years that people didn't really recognize.

@Azelover

I completely disagree, the wii does not offer anything more than the iphone does, since the iphone offers the same exact motion control gameplay (whether it be light saber battles, or casual racing ). If your theory was true, then the GBA would have dominated last generation, the reason DS is doing so well is because we have hit a larger market with the DS not just kids and teens, but adults. PSP is the same, its just not as popularly viewed due to its mature content, and the fact some people dont even know it exists (thank you sony).

Really? It offers the same value? Party, social, family?

OK.

I think you may be talking about technology though, not value. But I do agree that the iPhone has a lot of value

The level of technology in the DS reached "good enough" for even the PS2 players, which is why a dilemma started for the linear extension of home console evolution. People no longer cared about further improvements. We saw that in Japan more clearly, but in fact we're seeing it worldwide.

I completely resent the stupidity of narrowing markets down to demographics, so don't even get me started on that one. Just trust me.

Looks like sales are going to be really good in Japan and Othes for a while especially with FFXIII and GT5 coming out this year that'll guarantee high sales for a long time.

This is Sonys comeback.
