A cursor, yes.
A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.
This could be true, that is when Ninty holds it's conference.
Hopfully it will be somthing like the TP E3 04 trailer.

Yes, because pointing isn't really a motion. You barely move your hand while pointing. IR pointing is also much easier to implement in games. Handling the bow is very easy in TP, you press the B button to change the perspective and then point at the screen and press B again to shoot an arrow. In Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games you press A+B and pull the Wiimote back to get the arrow ready, point at the screen and tilt the Nunchuk to bring the second cursor over the Wiimote cursor for better accuracy. Then you let A+B go to shoot the arrow. The same action, but done with different controls (IR vs. IR plus motion). Of course the way that it is done in M&S wouldn't suit a Zelda game, because you have to be able to hit your target quickly. For M&S's archery it works very well though and it would also be way too easy to get good results with only pointing at the screen. Getting motion controls right is really a hard thing to do, because most games fail to do it. On the other hand, nobody has to worry that the IR pointing won't work well, unless a game is made by a crappy developer. |
Thanks Rol. That was a great xplanation.
But did u just describe Wii Motion Plus there (with the Mario and Sonic olympic archery)?
Btw, how can Mario and Sonic be in the same game. They are from different publishers.

Sorry to quibble, but archery in Wii Sports Resort has shown that aiming can work pretty damn well if you're using a gyroscope instead of an accelerometer. ;)

I was going to mention Motion Plus, but I didn't think it was important.
It works well enough for Wii Sports Resort, but I think I'd prefer to have games utilize the more precise pointing of IR in most cases. Aiming is more of an abstraction in WSR archery. (and I know, it's not perfect with IR either, but it's closer).

It's almost a given Zelda Wii will release in 2010 holidays, so it would be reasonable to see some short trailers as of now.
This is why I don't buy Ninty anymore. No original 1st party IPs. Same with Hollywood. Remakes, prequels, and sequels.
theres actually quite a few new IPs announced. theres also endless ocean 2 and disaster although the last 1 didnt make it to NA
