Forums - Microsoft - If the 360 can't do graphics like the PS3, HOW can it do THIS?

once i see killzone 2 graphics on xbox360 then i will agree with the statement

Certainly nothing thats currently out beats KZ2. But Ive seen alot that is releasing in the next 9 months that beats it fairly easily. And then CryEngine 3 owns all.

I agree that nothing currently beats K2 and I make no judgement on any game until the final release is in my console.

I also agree with many who say there is not a lot in terms graphics from what we have seen so far between the two.

I do think however that a newer console (PS3 was released a year after x360) which is far more difficult for developers to come to grips with has more potential to produce better graphics eventually than one that is 4yrs old and easy to program (x360) even if we start with both as being equal.

That is BS.

Just strip KZ2 off his lightning and weather effects (tons of layers) and you will see a very average graphics...

You mean just strip away some graphics, then some more graphics and what you are left with is not that impressive graphics???

I guess you must be right.

Re-read my post, with your glasses this time.

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

Really. I can see no point in arguing on this any further so lets leave it at that.

I have no knowledge on the ins and outs of how graphics chips/programs work so I cannot argue with you.

I would however trust the words of numerous developers and even MS themselves than over someone (yourself) posting on this forum in regards to K2.

With all due respect you keep your opinions (and feel free to voice them) but I'll listen to what the unbiased and those at the cutting edge of the technology have to say.

Oh but I don't lower the quality of KZ2's graphics.

I just say that, while weather and lightning effects are the best ever done on a console, the background graphics (3D modeling and texturing...etc) is very standard.

Just look closely at a sentry turret on any of the multiplayer map and you see what I'm talking about.

Even if it it very good, it still feels a bit like a make-up (some power stripped from one side to another).

So I don't believe it is such a technological showcase to prove the so-called superiority (...) of the PS3... far from it...

I did, with glasses on this time. Same result.

..ok so the problem is elsewhere...

I think that's because of the law of diminishing returns. One can do a billion poligon 3D modell of the turret and mapp it with a real life size texture, yet the effects of that visually will not be that striking as a good lighting engine.

I don't know... I believe it is a design choice...

It works impressively well for outdoor maps... quite less for interior (the lights effects are still very good on the Vekta cruiser, but you don't have the weather effects layer anymore...).

The only game ive seen that looks greater than all are the new graphic king Uncharted 2.

If 360 can match it? Maybe, maybe not. But the rest i can see 360 handle becuase of games like Forza 3 and Gears of War 2.

You already own a copy of U2 ? How can you tell ?

"Just look closely at a ....OF THE MULTIPLAYER MAP...."

That quote says it all.
