Forums - Nintendo - 2009 = Wii's Best Year So Far?

2009 was until now Wiis crapiest year for me. The only two games i consider great were Punch-Out!! and Madworld. Punch-Out!! was great for what it is and MadWorld had IMHO best MC integration and most statisfieing mindless killing in any video game ever. The games OP listed are OK, not great IMO.

BUT i'm happy to see the effort 3rd party is putting with titles like LittleKingsStory, wich is indeed near great but nothing for me.

Oh and don't forget M+ with a great Tiger Woods game and some OK Tennis games, but again i'm not into sports on pc/console with the exception of the arcade style sports like sega soccer or strikers charged.

So Wiis best Year? Hell no!!

Wiis best 3rd party year? OFC. MadWorld, LittleKingsStory, Murasama are all very good titles! And there are plenty of OK titles like Conduit and Klonoa.

No, this year has been horrible. Thanks God next year looks very promising: Tales of Graces, Monster Hunter 3, Metroid: Other M, Super Mario Galaxy 2, No More Heroes 2, Sin and Punishment 2, Red Steel 2, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers, Monado, Fragile, Pikmin 3 ...

^ Indeed. It's probably going to be the best year! Also, let's not forget a new Star Fox (please???).

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

This year did see 3rd parties finally step up to the plate, though Nintendo greatly diminished their yield at the same time (though they seem to be more than making up for it next year)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

So Mario, is this the Wii's best year so far?

Damn it! Why do you always have to be so negative? :(

I LOVE ICELAND!

For the kind of games I like this has been the best year. But thanks to the lack of sales on these games I expect third parties to be quite weary of putting the effort in again. Madworld and HoD:OK deserved way better sales as do Cursed Mountain, Boom Blox Party and the handful of other awesome Wii flops. CoD is literally the only mature (I hate that word) game to do decently in recent memory.

Reading these boards its no wonder 3rd parties try so little, many have no interest in anything that isn't rated 90%+, sells for $20, and is based on some existing Ninty or Capcom property. You despise the shovelware, and then don't support the good stuff. Ask the guys who made Dawn of Discovery how much quality plays into the sales mix on Wii. I mean jesus christ look at MP:Trilogy sales and tell me that doesn't make you want to scream.

This is the year that Wii owners said fuck you to third parties. Perhaps it was in retaliation for the abuse we suffered in the past, but it will not help in the future. Blowing off 3rd-parties is a great call, since we all know we can rely on Ninty to keep a consistent stream of quality games year round. Us GC/N64 owners can let you know how that turned out...

I love my Wii, but I'm not a fan of my fellow Wii owners (purchase plans) by and large.

We can't be expected to buy games we don't like to support developers. I've done this a couple of times, but to be honest it's a waste of time. The enthusiasts who would do this are in such a minority that they're irrelevant any way. Though if I do like a game that is truly niche, I will buy it a second time (I've only done this once).

If this isn't what you're expecting, then you're just giving out that a large amount of people don't share your tastes. If a game satisfies it's owners beyond a small niche and has a viral effect (looks fun to an observer and/or has good local multiplayer), then it should sell regardless. Developers need to learn to make games that people want, and people should stop acting like us customers have a duty to buy things we don't want.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

www.xnagg.com/zombieasteroids/publish.htm

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Exactly i mean come on, no matter how u look at it, the Conduit and MadWorld are ok games with no hype whatsoever. Look at how CoD sold on the wii, why cant there be any GTA's here i ask? why cant companies spend good money and try hard on the Wii.

MH3 proved that a bit of effort on the Wii produces sales, and Tales of Graces and FF:CC will prove also that Wii gamers want big games, not niche or decent enough new IP's. The more these games start flowing, the more successful other games will be. But as much as i like my no more heroes and madworlds, they will never be huge successes. Maybe japanese trend will start showin up in the West soon who knows.
