In that order.

That said, all of those factors are important, which is why the JRPG is the hardest genre to get right.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

When you are a bit scared to move from A to B it a lot of fun especially when you made it. However when you realize that you know that you can't make it you have to get back. Start healing look for some easy enemy's and that's what makes it boring, because you seen it done it but you have to level up. I it feels a bit like cheating because it becomes so easy. I have to say that it's still your own game style. I also have to say that I don't really use much potion. At the end of the game I got many left or I end up selling them because they are to weak (regain just 20 hp for example).

yeah i like long games, i have to like the characters, they need development.
and decent storyline, and battle system, good music.
all needed for a JRPG.

the most time i spent so far this gen on a jrpg game is : blue dragon ( over 165hrs )
star ocean :the last hope is 2nd with ( 103 hrs )
2. story
3. character developement
4. battle system
5. extras
are my top 5 in order

i was wondering what is the most important factor for you , when u are going to buy a new jrpg?

also do u still love the genre as much as u did when u 1st started in them or do u love it even more?

for me the most important factor in buying a new jrpg is the length of the game ( anything over 50+hrs of playtime i will buy it, less than that will have to consider it alot )and who its made by. and i love the genre more now than ever before. :)

I would say the most important factor is story. I would love to see more Jrpgs innovate though, and would take that over a good story any day, but that isn't common so I will settle for story.

Not really, like I said before, the most important aspect for me is story(or new gameplay if offered), but I am a person who thinks the genre peaked with that aspect in the Snes PS era. Now most Jrpgs aren't too much close, with some exceptions. Also when I started playing almost every Jrpg had a different system of gameplay to me, and that spoiled me. Now everything is something I already have been through. I still love the genre though, and it is up there with Action-Adventure games as my favorite.

I disagree with you on length though. 50hrs+ is pretty above-average for a Jrpg imo. Most are around 30-40hrs for main story. Even then, this is much longer than most other genres, and I would much rather them conclude an RPG early rather than ruin it by dragging it out with things like fetch quests, or useless boring side stories(excluding the ones that are done right.) Having said that, there are RPGs that I spent 100hrs of hours in just because of the gameplay being filled with so much depth that in order to master it you have to play that long(thinks pokemon.)

Story and character development comes first for me, then battle system. JRPG genre has been very dull this gen. TOV is the only one I enjoyed enough to play through and I owned over 100 JRPGs coming into this gen.

They just suck now in comparison to what we got in the SNES and PS1 eras.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

well i guess we'll see when ff13 is released lol.... i dont have high hopes :(

If length is all that matters... that's really really strange...

Story!!! and no. nowadays i'm starting to lose interest

story, gameplay and length. That's why i play them b/c they justify full price purchases with 40+ hours of gameplay which is more than i can say for most games out there
