You do know that MH3 didn't release in the West yet, right? MH3 will easily sell that other 1.2 mil + between the Americas and Others.

Thanks for all your efforts hanafuda, but you should try harder to make us believe Monster Hunter 3 has really been a failure.

The 2 million WW figure is for March 2010 (en of the fiscal year). I wouldn't expect initial shipments (as the game releases around that time, the 1st shipments outside of Japan will be just in time to be included in that finacial year) to enable Capcom to reach their 2 million figure (ie the 1.2 million you mention). It could likley do it LTD though.

With a release date of 'March' for NA and not even an estimated month for Europe. Capcom better be quick to launch while Mon Hun fever is still rampant in those regions. |
I doubt that MH "fever" will settle down, its a franchise that's getting well known, and from what the visuals have shown, possibly the most well done title on the Wii. I have a feeling it will be well-received in the western territories. Admittedly, I thought MH3 was supposed to be a holiday release in the US.
I think Nintendo should publish the game in the west, with good advertising it could be another "Symphonia case". But I guess we should hope nothing from the current Nintendo. They haven't even brought us Project Zero 4 ...
| Cobretti2 said: does it matter at what price it sells at? like people said it aint exacty THAT much of a bargain. 800K in 4 weeks is pretty damn good. People these days have unrealistic expectations. What did you think it would reach 10million by now at full price? Hell alot of Wii games here in aus when they launch now come out under the $100AU mark, otherwise people don't buy them as most in times like this do not wish to spend $100 on a game but yet they will pay 70-90. |
It does matter for how much it sells and only really ignorant person wouldn't see that. You see, the retailers buy the games from the producer and pay for them but that isn't the end of the story. If retailers won't sell games or sell them under the price they bought them producer may or may not compensate retailers' loss (wheter it's happening with MH3 we dont know) but even if it doesn't the situation will without a doubt affect any other furhter deals between retailers and given producer. Every developer wants to keep his retailers happy about carrying his products and saying that Capcom "got their money" so it won't matter (as you stated in the next post) is really naive.
Also Capcom just shipped about 1 milion units of MH3 in Japan. That a nice number, there is no doubt about it. But it is still far away from Capcom goal of 2 milion units. And don't even start with Western sales, MH3 is a Japanese franchise and only a tiny amount of its sales come from the West.

Either respond to my posts constructively or just ignore them if thats too much for you.
Capcom's sales expectations can sometimes be highly optimistic. Didn't they expect Bionic Commando on PS3/360 to also be like million+ seller? They do this a lot.
1 million copies for any console game in Japan these days is a damn near miracle, even if MH3 takes a while to sell through all that (not like Capcom doesn't get paid either way).
If the series does take off a bit more in the West, 2 million still may be doable.
It would only have to ship 500k a piece or so in North America and Europe, which isn't out of the question. It's not like it has to be a blockbuster in the West to hit those sales expectations.
