Well if Assassin's Creed got nominated for GOTY in its time I don't see why this shouldn't. Or any game for that matter.

Haha, ouch. Thats harsh.

But I agree...there are these critically acclamed games that jsut fly over my head. Assaisn, Bioshock,  this...

Just shows that metacritic is worthless when it comes to personal preferences. The only thing its good for is forum arguments...

Yup...sometimes I wonder if something is wrong with my perception of the game. I mean, am I overexpecting? Or is the game just really not all that? Eg. Far Cry 2.

That's why I hold your opinion strongly in this thread, but I'm not going to be one-sided about it of course. Reviews are one thing, but you just can't take everyone's word for it anymore even in forums. I mean there are a few ppl in this thread that just played it for a couple hours and agreeing with the thread topic. Pinch of salt, I say.

hrm, I was able to get this game for 38,99$ (canadian currency). There was a special going from august 25-27 at ebgames, futureshop, bestbuy and walmart for that price.

At some point, something must have come from nothing...

In exploration, you need to find and exit? No problem, it will glow a different color when you switch to your blue heat viewIn stealth, you need to sneak up on enemy? No problem, game will circle where you need to shoot your rope gun...you don't even need to aim.

Its just so scripted, no intuition or skill needed...reminds me of guitar hero. Just push buttons as game dictates.

Wow, sounds like Shadow Complex.  No wonder why Shadow Complex seemed so short.  Everything was mapped out on the map they gave you, and shine a flashlight and it revealed what needed to get hit with what.  Mind you, I had a good time with it, but it seemed short.

Shadow complex is easy to beat and short if you jsut want to beat it. Try to get 100% of the items and map. Thats hardcore gaming right there...

I don't think Batman is a GOTY, but it is a very good game. The FreeFlow combat system is excellent. Although it relies primarily on an attack and counter, timing is critical. The ability to string together combos for additional xp and the combat animation overall are superior to most other action games. I find the story to be engaging so far, and the voice acting is top notch. The game does have some flat environmental details, but overall the graphics are impressive. The stealth mechanics are fun, and the upgrades seem to be fairly diverse.

Although some may disagree, I felt the demo was a pretty good representation of the game.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

ahh come on disolitude, its a batman game.. A GOOD batman game, that alone is worth praising.

I will pick this up at one time, but I can't justify $60 yet since there are a couple of other games coming out that I'm waiting on. Batman is awesome though!

Is this the first good batman game since Batman Returns?

Better than KZ2 and inFamous?

I'll pick this up when it gets cheaper.

WTF is with hype for this game?

Ok, so batman has a decent game...big deal. I havent seen anything great or original in this thus far.
This game threads on ideas that the first splineter cell had and ads predictable beat em up elements.

Coutner! Counter!

Give me a break...

And Modern Warfare is just another shooter and Uncharted is a Tomb Raider clone.  Very few games are completely original.  But when a game raises the bar for a ceratin genre people should take notice (Like the two games mentioned above).  Batman is the best 3rd person action game released so far this year.  And it flew under a lot of people's radar.  I just feel people should know how good this game really is.

Besides that, it's a Licensed Game done right.  How often does that happen?

Eh, NO! In both cases. I understand you really like the game but don't put down other games just to try and prove a point.

OT: I plan to get it eventually, I liked it. However, I agree with a select few, I woudn't call it a candidate for GOTY, but that's just an opinion folks. It's not a big deal.

I wasn't knocking either game. I guess I should have put in the sarcasm notation.  Both of those games are a couple of my favorites this generation.  They both pushed their respective genres to higher levels.  That's what the following two sentences after the one you highlighted explained.

This game took me by surprise. I expected a good game, in the 80s (84 to be exact), but not a 90s and award contender .

First time this gen I missed the metacritic prediction by more than 5 points.
