Forums - Sony - Should I trade in my original fat 60 gig PS3 for a slim?

I got my PS3 on the 1st day that it came out, and I can't still believe that I overpaid for it.  Anyways, no red ring of death for my PS3 ever since I've had it.  I have been 100% satisfied with it.  And it has PS2 game backward compatibility.  I'm not sure how much of the specs are different between the slim and phat other that the slim would look better in my entertainment center.  Are others trading theirs in?

The 60 gig has nothing but advantages other then how it looks and being a first production run.

If it were me you couldn't pry a 60 gig from me for a slim unless you were paying me a good 300 dollars or so.

That's just me though.  A reliable PS2 is damn hard to find.

Only if you get it put on Ebay, not Gamestop.

*slaps* blasphamy even thinking about it.
seriously though, keep the fat 60gig. that console literally does what sony's new picture says: "everything"

1. If you were completely 100% satisfied with it, then you would realize that you did not overpay for the system. You paid the full $600 (presumably) and had a chance to experience what Sony was bringing to the table at first. And it was great. The PS3 with blu-ray capabilities was a steal at $600 at launch.

2. The original piano black with chrome, card reader, backwards compatable, 4 usb port PS3 that you have has more features, cost more for Sony to make, and more for you to buy. It is the Playstation 3 before features were slowly removed. It is the Playstation Sony wished it could sell for $300 a while ago but couldn't.

The slim is cool, so I think you should buy it if you want to. But make sure you get slightly more than $300 for your older, and imo better system.

Do not trade it. Original 60gb model > all. If you need more storage capacity, make a backup and change the HD for a bigger one. Do not trade that PS3! If I could get one, I probably would.

I'd only suggest contemplate this if you can make more money by selling the 60Gig than it will cost you to replace with the Slim and PS2. Slim + PS2 = $398. Can you sell 60Gig for $400?

60Gig Phat > PS3 Slim + PS2 Slim both in terms of space occupied and features. One is good, the other is bad.

I'd only consider flicking on the 60Gig if I really thought there was a chance of it going bust. If it goes bust then you have a worthless door stop and you will need to spend the money to replace it. If you sell it then you can subsidise your slim purchase.

Lastly, how much do you believe the "b/c never coming back to PS3" statements from Sony?

I have an 80Gig bought just 2 months ago, I have no plans to trade in for a slim, ever. I'm expecting phat to last the duration and I'll only be replacing it with PS4; maybe, if I'm still interested in gaming once PS4 has been out for 3 years and had 2 price cuts.

If your not interested with the PS2 Compatibility and the memory card readers, sell it and get a slim.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 > Modern Warfare 2

depends on how much you get for it.

If you can get like 600 I would do it. Get a Slim and a nice amount of games with. You could probably get a little more than 600 though.

I would only do it if you don't care about BC and you're ok with only 2 USB ports and no card readers.

4 ≈ One

I like the move Sony has made with the Slim making it cheaper and a bit smaller. But honestly, the fat PS3 looks way better (IMO).

Who knows, because the slim is technically a new model, it has yet to prove it's reliability. Wouldn't it be crazy of Slims started having issues......and you traded your perfectly working, better looking model for a slim.......hmmmm.......

If you already have the better looking, more expensive, model, why trade for a downgraded model with 20g more HD space. To each his own though......i guess.......
