I agree about Reigns and the Shield. He was a good power to the team for heavy moves. But outside of that he isn't much. If he was given time to develop and have a few fueds so he could work on his mic skills, he'd be fine to win the rumble. But that's years down the line. Now this rush job is gonna ruin him and I feel bad for him cause I doubt he wanted this.
Thinking about the Rumble a bit. I think WWE really screwed themselves over these past few years. They literally built no one. LIke, I don't disagree with Daniel Bryan not winning the Rumble, cause I don't think him main eventing 'Mania would be the right thing to do this year. But there's no one else to win. They screwed up Cesaro so many times. They'll never give it to Ambrose, unfortunately, because of his loose cannon gimmick. Rollins can do it, and if his match with Cena and Lesnar is any indication, he could. But he's heel. Orton sucks as a face, so he's no good. Leaves Ziggler really.

Isn't the Royal Rumble about skyrocketing someone up into the stratosphere? how many superstars did it bring up from the midcard to be main event talent? Rey Mysterio, Chris Benoit, Brock Lesnar (though really, he was destined for main event basically fromt he beginning.) The Rumble can either be a tool for a story or a means toelevate new talent. In this case, I think they're using it as a way to enhance new Talent.
Like any new superstart or relatively inexperienced superstars, sometimes they just need that push. Some guys get the love despite what WWE wants like Ziggler and Bryan and Cesaro. Some guys get the push, like Cena, Batista, and ORton.
Speaking of which, I think a surprise return from ORton followed by a Rumble win would have worked amazingly well. ORton vs LEsnar could be awesome. Lesnar is a beast, but Orton is a Viper and knows when and how to strike. a viscious but babyface orton vs a monster like Lesnar would be quite entertaining. So would Bryan vs Lesnar, with bryan being the superior wrestler.
Up to now I've felt almost every Lesnar match has been boring, but when he's paired with someone intelligent and cunning like ROllins or CM Punk, he really delivers. Against Cena and HHH and Taker, he was just boring. he needs someone fast and smart.
I think Orton would be a nice blend, since Orton is quick AND powerful.
Lots of options. Lots of better options, but at least this year it was New talent. Is Reigns ready? Nope, he is not, we all know that, but at least we have someone new to cheer for...if the IWC and lame-assed whiners can get their head out of their ass long enough to see the good amidst the bad.
But goddamn it pissed me off soo much seeing Kane and Big Show take out everyone. Holy shit how dumb was that? "Oh, let's have them take out ALL of the upcoming talent. Don't let Reigns do it. Don't let Ziggler or Cesaro do it." So anticlimactic and frankly stupid storytelling. you could even see Show and Kane laughing at the audience for their jeers and boos.
That said, I actually really like the roster. Not a lot of guys I don't like, overall. HAted Alberto Del Rio. Felt they really trimmed a lot of the fat by letting a tonne of midcard talent go. (Except Santino. Santino is awesome...and my cousin actually trans with him in Mississauga...no lie.)
Ziggler. Cesaro. Ambrose. Wyatt. Bad NEw Barret. Tyson Kidd. Rollins. Dozens others. Lots of guys I love. Hell, even Rusev is proving to be kind of fun to watch, and so is Ryback.
