Forums - Sales - Can PS3 take the Japanese holiday season?

For reference last year 832k Wii were sold between November 1st and January 31st ( January is still a holyday period in japan for sales due to new year gifts giving).

During the same period 392k PS3 were sold....

So the difference during the holydays isn't x4 or x8 but a mere x2...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

I would like to change my vote to NO!

I think consoles are doomed in Japan. People will buy a PSP Go rather than a PS3 if they're into Sony's games in Japan.

People will rather buy a DSi rather than a Wii too.

FF13 and NSMB Wii will give each respective system a boost but one game can only do so much.

I don't see PSP Go changing much in Japan.  Japan isn't really into downloading, I can't see a UMD-less PSP doing well even though I think that the new design of the PSP would really appeal to people in Japan.  It's kind of alienating current PSP owners if anything.  Casuals certainly aren't going to get into it.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

With GT5 and FFXIII it has a chance, but somehow I doubt it... still if it passes the 4 million mark this year that would be a good achievment and IMO next year will start far better then this one

Well if we estimate the price cuts gives the PS3 a 50% sales boost over last year( that's the kind of numbers the Source was mentionning in his latest editiorial) we have the following :

PS3 around 600k

Wii at 832k.

If both FFXIII and GT5 release the PS3 should win.

If only FFXII releases ( more likely) I think the race might be too close to call :P

I personally see a lot of CROW eating once Tales of Vesperia and the slim releases in Japan

Do tales games really push hardware? What are you basing that on?

In the wilderness we go alone with our new knowledge and strength.

people are undermining the importance of FF13 in Japan big time!

"No because we hate the ps3, and cant see it doing any better than its doing despite having a $100 price cut/10,000 yen price cut.

We cant see the future but we are praying nothing happens to boost ps3 sales."

Thats what you should expect from this thread, since thats what I see

I bolded the parts in which you are correct.

Now on a serious note, you have been talking about a $299 PS3 since almost two years and how it's going to change everything in the console wars. You are the polar opposite of the observation you described. In any case, the result will be something inbetween.

We dont know what the result will be ROL, either positive or negative, we cant just assume its going to sell greatly, and we cant assume its going to sell poorly.

I think there is a chance, but it doesn't look like it is a big one.
