Forums - Sales - No More Excuses for PS3 now?

Now the PS3 is just 50 € more expensive than the Wii... any excuses will be ridiculous.

PS3 will be the best selling console when Sony buys 100 million of them and buries them in the New Mexico desert.

Any gamers on this site old enough to understand this reference?

Now the PS3 has got the price cut, the games, the networking tools etc etc

Pretty much everything the 360 has.

So with that do those PS3 supporters now conceed there can be no more excuses in terms of how the PS3 does sales wise?

The main defence was always the price of the console. People would say "When the price cut happens xyz will happen". Wit lots of games to come people would say "wait untill xyz comes out" etc etc.

In my view that cannot be used anymore. The PS3 is a good console and now has a good price tag. Not as cheap as a 360 but not that far away from it.

PS3 from first week of September HAS to sell more consoles worldwide then 360 or i honestly do think that is it in regards to who takes 2nd and 3rd place this generation.

PS3 was outselling 360 handily week in and week out until the 360 got ITS price cut a year ago.

Exactly. It proved with a higher price it can outsell the 360 and now is no different. If it does not replicate that then to me it says that it can be whatever price and people still won't buy it.

The 360 has not really got a price drop just Elite replacing the pro and in some places that has even gone up in price i.e UK. So on 1st of setember here in UK a PS3 will cost you £249 and a 360 with an HD will cost you £199. Only £50 difference, the price of 1 new game. That is nothing.

IF the PS3 fails to beat 360 in that enviroment then as i mentioned before it is not going to finish 2nd this gen. It will be over. It will confirm Wii 1st, 360 2nd and PS3 3rd.

What is with some of you, you ACTUALLY expect the PS3 to pass the 360 this gen?

Me personally i do yes.

Reason for this is simply down to history. Ps1 and Ps2 did so well sales wise it is strange to see the PS3 not even selling 30% of what one of those sold. We all put this down to various things but mostly down to price. People say if it had the same price as a 360 more people would buy a PS3. I tend to agree with that. So with the price of the PS3 and 360 now being close (25% difference, no longer 50%) i expect the PS3 to do much much better then it ever has. 360 went on to double it's sales in the deppested recession in memory after a price cut 12 months ago. The PS3 should at bare minimum beat it's previous sales records for the PS3. The next 12 months of PS3 sales should shatter the PS3's previous year sales.

If it does that and Microsoft do nothing then Sony has a very good chance of taking 2nd spot.

The PS3 outsold the 360 for most of 2008 until MS dropped the price. I expect the same thing again.

ms just raised the price actually. even better circumstances.

all it would take for ps3 to catch up to the 360 is two very good years. If it can outsell 3-6 by 2 million each christmas, and 1-2 million during the rest of the year,....ms will release a new console :P

Do you really expect someone to dignify that with a response?

Yes, it was a serious question.

Is it no excuse for not selling better, or is it no excuse for not being better or what should it excuse? Why is the word excuse used?

This holiday season won't be telling. What will be telling is January-May next year.

The slow season is when we are really going to sort the men from the mice with regards to how the two companies will compete at new price points.

But I agree that as off now all PS3 fanboy's excuses are off the table. The console must perform now and not stop performing, or it's all over.

a. The intro price for 360 is still far cheaper and MS can still cut the price. So no, price as an excuse is not off the table. IT just depends on how MS (one of the smartest companies in the world) reacts.

b. The holiday season will be extremely important because it is the holiday season which pretty much sums up the rest of your year. It is also during this time that leads get bigger or smaller.
