Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo's New Direction

SNESboy:

1. Come on, the quality of the previous Sonic games (Secret Rings was ok though), has nothing to do with the ultimate character he is and what he represents (one of the 2 characters that built video gaming as we know it). So it's great to have these 2 icons in one fantastic fighter.

2. I thought Double Dash to be a bit of a let down, the 2 persons and fantasy vehicles didnt appeal for long. I'm very pleased to see "normal" karts again, which makes the experience a bit more "real" (baby wagon, come on). For all I care they would totally get rid of these weird "karts". Motorcycles look cool and bring something new, but not ridiculous.

3. Well, you can't miss something you haven't seen, and HAMMER wasn't really shown a lot.

4. I'm not impressed with D:DoC either, but I have faith that Nintendo and Monolith (very good studio) will eventually deliver a great game. They don't make that much new games and they will make sure it's great, since they cannot afford to lose their great name.

5. I think it is still released on time in the States, but not before 2008 in Europe and Japan.

SNESboi, you crack me up. Peace!

Mario Kart Wii has motorcycles. Smash Brawl has Sonic. Project HAMMER has been cancelled. Disaster Day of Crisis looks like crap. Brawl is delayed.

Is this really a good time to be a Nintendo fan? HELL NO!

I must be the only one who thinks that Sonic in Brawl is a bad idea. Why? Just look at ALL of his games since 2001. They have been complete and utter crap. The last good Sonic game was Sonic Adventure. While there have been a few exceptions over the past 6 years (Sonic and The Secret Rings and Sonic Rush for Wii and DS respectively) there really hasn't been anything good from Sonic Team.

Granted, most people would ignore this fact considering that everyone has wanted to pit Mario against Sonic since the Genesis days. But I feel that Sonic in Brawl would just tarnish the games image. Sure most people won't even realize it until they have bought it, but that doesn't matter because Nintendo already made a profit off the game.

Surely the quality of previous Sonic gamesis irrelevant as to whether having him in Brawl is a good or bad idea.  It's not like they are leaving the creators of the Sonic games to develop Brawl.  If you were complaining about Sonic & Mario at the Olympics that would be a different matter.  Including Sonic can only be a good idea.  No one in the world will refuse to buy the game just because Sonic is in it but many people that were sitting on the fence will buy it cause they are huge Sonic fans.

I love that Sonic is in Brawl, the rivalry is back and more tangible than ever. I'm a long time Nintendo Supporter, hell when i was a kid i bought the SNES with my piggy bank money couldn't wait ;o. As much support as i have always had for nintendo, i did play a sonic game or two back in the day, and think he is a very good mascot. Mario and Him represent the best of what video games had to offer without all the hype of today. So bring on the blue furball and let the plummer bring all his tools to the fight!!!

Sonic vs Mario is a match up that people who were around and really into the SNES/Genesis era have been wanting for years.  They represent an entire generation of video gamers.

Sonic vs. Mario is epic.  At least it is to me.

To each their own.
