Why are you comparing DQX to FFXIII? DQIX is the one that is coming out near the launch of FFXIII (and caused FFXIII to be delayed further). Plus if anything, DQIX has a bigger chance of selling more.

How is Pokemon a JRPG in any way, shape or form? It's about as much a JRPG as The Legend of Zelda. |
This is the funniest thing I've read in a while. Please go ahead and explain to me how it is NOT an JRPG?
Here are some reasons why it is a JRPG:
Stats/Level System for a Party.
Turn Based battles that use a strategy such as items, and status effects.
Store system almost identical to that found in other Jrpgs. You buy a set number of items and upgrades, you can sell items and upgrades at a cheaper price than what you buy them for.
Slight Adventuring aspects. Most RPGs have them, even Jrpgs. Jrpgs mostly only have slight adventuring and nothing too exciting. Pokemon can be described as such.
Oh and btw, I am doubting your Legend of Zelda comparison. To be honest some games in the Zelda series, such as Zelda II can be labeled as Jrpgs. So here I ask, if pokemon isn't a Jrpg what is it? Almost everybody who has played a pokemon game and those who haven't know it is a Jrpg.
Final Fantasy 13, Dragon Quest isn't as popular as it is in Japan as in the rest of the world.
Can Dragon Quest X sell over 10 million copies? I doubt it.
My impression is that DQ games hardly sells anything in the West, perhaps a million or so.
@pulluspardus, i dont think this is a fanwar thread at all if u do oh well. i made this thread because i was curious as to what my fellow members of this site, thought on which one would sell more. i have a made few threads about comparing different games and series, and asking which one ppl like more, whats wrong with that, huh? and so what if i use caps, whats the big deal anyways.
GAMERTAG IS ANIMEHEAVEN X23
PSN ID IS : ANIMEREALM
PROUD MEMBER OF THE RPG FAN CLUB THREAD
ALL-TIME FAVORITE JRPG IS : LOST ODYSSEY

Pokemon is a turn based RPG. WHy is their even a question about this? It is essentially a single player MMORPG with the option for multiplayer battling and trading after you complete the main game.
The easiest way to tell its an RPG is that it took a lot of ideas and insperation from other RPG series, including Dragon Quest.

FFXIII isn't going to sell that much either.
FF13 will stomp Dragon Quest X.
DQ X: 6 million copies
FF13: 9 million copies

Why it is not a JRPG:
1) You capture little beasts and they do the combat for you.
2) It's not story focused at all.
3) It is aimed at children
4) While a JRPG story usually involves a grand adventure, Pokemon's story involves a teenager trapping small animals inside miniature prisons and forcing them to fight until they fall unconscious.
I suppose I exaggerated a little. It certainly is an RPG, and it's Japanese. It shares some traits with JRPGs, but I wouldn't consider it a JRPG. It just doesn't take itself seriously enough. I suppose when I think "JRPG" I think something like Final Fantasy, so Pokemon would be a very different kind of JRPG.
It's still awesome, though
EDIT: FINE. I know when I'm beaten, it's a JRPG
Kantor JRPGs do not have to take themselves seriously and can certainly be light-hearted, with greater focus on characters and the experience of adventure than a plot.
I mean, going by that reasoning, three out of four of your "Why Nots" would apply to Dragon Quest V. Would you say that DQV isn't a JRPG?

I know I'm fighting a losing battle, you don't have to help him
It is a JRPG. It's just that I played it when I was so young, I didn't think of it as such, and I've never liked the Final Fantasies or Dragon Quests really.
